hi all

what does this egg belong to? i found it on a public footpath today and a crow had had it by the looks of it. i think it could have been a curlew as there was one get up off a nest about 60 yards from where i found this egg. it is about the same size as a chicken egg & the egg looks to be stong.

so what is it?

might be a duck egg just a guess

dont think so, samller than any duck egg iv seen, although it was about 100 yards from a river. it was the curlew getting up nearby that made me think it could belong to that.

thanks for the quick reply anyway,

i am gussing that where i found this egg there is no one who shoots the land as the amount of crows round there is ridiculous. there is also a nature reserve nearby but they are just reserves for predators and crows and other things that need shooting. does any one know of any where were there is a estimate of all eggs & chicks killed by corws, maggies, etc etc?

if woody eggs are smaler but the same could it be a cookoo long shot i know

just done a google search on cuckoo eggs and they are a lot more spotted than this egg so i dont think it was.

cookoos change there eggs to mimic the nest they are laying in but the size they cant copy just guessing

we used to have grebs round us (old house) but cant remember ever seeing there eggs
