arveyboy 0
my certificate finally came back today and because ive had some time ive been turning over a remington 700 sps in my head rather than a tikka t3 lite. the only fear i have is the lack of a free-floating barrel on the remington. how badly does it affect the accuracy and is it possible to get 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards with factory ammo because if it is ill be happy (because im reloading ). how much do remingtons usually retail for as well? tikka t3 at my gunshop goes for £660. whats the comparison? Prices can be easily found all over the web and on Guntrader.co.uk. I have a T3 Lite Stainless in .223, a T3 Hunter in .243 and a 700SPS Stainless in .308...they are ALL capable of half inch groups with the right factory ammo. Given the option of the two guns you list, I would not buy another T3 Lite, I'd get a 700 SPS. The Lite shoots very well but the balance is a pain in the arse!! I was out with Mr L last Sunday ammo testing and zeroing and put 3 of his home brew .223 55g ballistic tips in virtually the same hole at 100 yards....he took a picture...I'll see if he can put it up!! elvolcan 0
I've seen the remington 700 sps for £450 new on guntrader. Its the rifle I am considering getting next in .308 calibre ATB Quote Link to post
Mr_Logic 5
Deker's group from a Tikka T3 Lite: My CZ 527 is also accurate: Remember with both of these, they're measured edge to edge, so for centre/centre minus .224, which gives you 0.121 for the T3, and 0.127 for the CZ. The ragged hole next to my group is another 3 shot group, shot after a one-click right adjustment of 1/4 MOA @ 100 yards. The total group for the 6 shots measures 0.429, and then remove the .25" adjustment gives a 6-shot group of 0.179". So clearly, given the right ammo, the Tikka and CZ shoot! I am having similar deliberations over these rifles but in 243 though. I prefer the Remington for most things but wonder about accuracy next to a Tikka. Deker - we must get your Remington up on the targets with the 155gr Scenar loads I have, that should show us what it can do! Quote Link to post
karlp86 0
just to through a spanner in the works, have you considered a howa 1500? they shoot great straight from the box, the only downside from the remington sps is that because they have only recently become relatively popular there is a lack of after market parts for them. mine consistantly shoots groups less than 1/2inch at 100 yards with factory loads. atb karl Quote Link to post
Mr_Logic 5
Agreed, Howas are good rifles. While you can't get that much in the way of aftermarket stuff, they take a Remington 700 mounts, and people do triggers to fit them. The stock, be it Hogue or the laminate ones, is very good anyway. What else would you like to change? Quote Link to post
hunter1 63
What about 223mannlicher prohunter mountain2 Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
to get a true accuracy reading a five shot group in my humble opinion is essential, i'm not taking anything away from yourself or mr. logic, but try it and see the difference 2 shots make.... Now for me i'd go for the tikka, as now right this minute 3 remmy's that i know off in the area aren't shooting below 3 inches at 100 yards with any ammo, i blame the pressure points at the front of the barrel, as they don't seem to be putting the same pressure at both points on the barrel, So i'm really intrested to see how things pan out, there will be a few tikka's that don't shoot be i haven't seen many that don't..... My advice if it is your first rifle, is buy a budget rifle, T3 and spend the extra cash saved on a good quality scope and mounts.... Snap. Quote Link to post

Just a waste of two more rounds..they would go straight through the holes I already made with the first three shots and be lost!!! Quote Link to post
