Stags out of season ???

Recommended Posts

Hi Cumbrian, think what Joe and other people are getting at is the way it came across,ie asking for estate phone numbers.

Being a meat inspector i thought you would have knowledge of all the rules that go with job,atb NID

We have only just started with these Game spots and this was only my 2nd visit to this plant , I know the owner well , but he was away on holiday and the only people there were some Polish staff who struggle with the language .So JOE that is why I did not ask them directly , and at the end of the day I am not bothered if the deer are being taken out of season , as long as it is all legal

The "Farmers Defence" is exactly that...you need a licence for out of season or night shooting to make it legal.

If you are caught without a licence and then rely on the farmers defence it is down to you to put your case and hope it is accepted!!

It may be playing with words but that is how it is interpreted!

Excuse my gramma :feck:

Why dont you just ask the game handling establishment? instead of going behind there backs and above and beyond your job MR BUSY BODY.

I stand by what I say, who needs the police to do there job when people like you do it for them!!! What are you in your spare time a special constable!!!!

As for wildlife liason officer's there no better than the RSPCA.

Ours in Lancashire has been fairly good, certainly better than RSPCA scumbags.

Whats your problem with the law !!!!!!!!!!! ( would you be reacting like this if I had not said what my job is ) :wallbash:

The way Iam reacting has nothing to do with your job, the fact that in your first posts you seemed to be gloating about maybe catching someone out is what I have a problem with!

Deker, while I agree wholeheartedly with you that you need a license to shoot deer at night, I am afraid I cannot agree with you about the "Farmer's Defence".

The Farmer's Defence is enshrined in the Deer Act 1991 and was not repealed by the 2007 Regulatory Reform (Deer) (England & Wales) Order 2007. This is substantiated by the BDS Training manual for Deer Stalkers 2007 which mentions both parts of the act and simplifies it for folks like me into plain english.

Do not give the b*ggers more power than they already have. I hate Natural England/Defra with a passion, they know nothing about the countryside and care even less.

I hear what you say and actually couldn't agree more...the big but is that it is all about interpretation and test cases!!

Not yet tested I understand, and Natural England in effect refused to answer my direct question on this a couple of months back when I had a potential "out of season/night" job on a RAF base......lots of grass (farmers defence????? :whistling::hmm: ...could I make it stick...they had turned some of the land into a base Golf course and football pitch)...... but no answer from them if I need a licence ...just sent me loads of stuff to read....what I wanted of course was an answer!! I haven't noticed anything in the 1991 or amendment about "National Security or MoD land" so I was just looking for some clarification!

Deker, I will be very interested in what you find out. I do the deer control on a golf course and have just taken on a private airfield with the same problem. Have you tried emailing them? Head office is the place to start. If you put it in writing they will have to answer you. I found that when trying to get information from Defra about the contraception of wild boar in the Forest Of Dean, when I rang the local chaps and the ministry vets they had no idea what was going on. I had to email London for them to answer me. I wish you luck with your enquiries.

im sorry but the reason for shooting deer o0ut of season is not cause there infested with tick its because most estates need there numbers

and dont do it in the season because theve to shoot so many thats why they shoot out of season dont get tme wrong some p-eople have valid reasons for it but watts the point in having a stag and hind season if they cant do it in that time ;)

I don't know of any estates that can't get the number they want shot in season, the seasons are long enough. Many estate owners are only interested in grouse numbers, the biggest threat to grouse in scotland is tick. therefore several estates treat any tick hosts as vermin ie deer and hares

A few estates have fenced the whole place to keep the deer out, several more try to keep the deer off there ground by adopting a shoot on sight policy.

Hundreds of deer are shot out of season because of ticks. I know this for a fact.

Having dealt with NE first hand, they are a total waste of f****n space and money.

Just pen pushers with some Hunter Welly's on if you ask me. They have literally no knowledge of the countryside and what inhabits it and all decisions are made from information out of books....JD

From first hand exprience and not hearsay ,there is nothing easier than filling in the forms printed off from their website and submitting them.I received an e-mail next day saying they could see no problem why the shooting at night or out of seasn couldnt go ahead .I recieved confirmation via email, printable ,and thats that .Natural England are not a qualified body on deer management ,do not claim to be such but they are the only means of obtaining LEGAL WRITTEN PERMISSION to cull deer at other times than that stated within the game laws .Who wants to plead a case for shooting at niht with a copper that dosnt know the law anyway .Rather show an A4 printout and be on my way to be honest .Ps the landowner received a copy of my application too so hes in the clear and very happy with the situation .pps I sent in several pictures of deer at night and deer damage that satisfied them totally .Good luck .
