paddy.t 5
Have been up to my cousins today and he's got a 6 month old lab and she wolfes down her dinner in litterally seconds, just wondering if this is normal, never seen a dog eat so fast. Quote Link to post
lewismac1 1
Yeah all working black lab's are the same. I have to stop all mine half way through ( with a blast on the stop whistle) or else they throw it all back up. Springer's and most working dog's are the same. Quote Link to post
druimmuir 1
I must have a kennel full of exceptions, mine (spaniels and labs) all take their time with the food and never a mad dash to finishgfirst, one thing that can slow them down is putting a large stone or something in the bowl, make her work for the food, bolting food isn't a good thing, have not used this method, never needed to but told it works Nicola Quote Link to post
Geoff.C 0
Yes, a very common problem with a lot of gun dogs. One of our youngsters would just "inhale" food like a hoover, then very shortly after chuck it all back again! The stone in the bowl method is interesting, we have slowed her up however, by putting her food in a wide dish, thinly spread to stop big mouthfuls going at once. Quote Link to post

lone wolf 0
don't know why but mine did it as puppies and then slowed right down, they don;t rush their food but will always eat if you give them food no matter how much they've had.regards jack. Quote Link to post
paintandpins 0
My old lab, just inhales her food and has never been sick, she would eat until she burst, as she is now retired, she's on a diet which is about as popular as the LACS at the Game Fair. Interesting our new lab is the same and one of our bavarians but not the others. Strange isn't it. Even with compettiton, some are slow and others not Quote Link to post

Mines the same....... I dont feed her out of a bowl but hand scatter her food around...... it makes her slow down and also use her nose to find it !! Shes never chucked it back up this way either. Most, if not all labs are greedy Quote Link to post
