Tiny 7 1,694
What do you think of hare's this time of year: That its there breeding time, With either young in the feilds or in there belly, Should be left alone really,IMHO Edited May 11, 2009 by tiny 7 Quote Link to post
Guest SJM
what you were told is correct. how do you think a pregnant woman would fare in a race against one whos in the peak of fitness? yes they can still move because they have legs and an instinct to survive, but if you want to see a hare running at its best then Dec/Jan are the best months Quote Link to post

Tiny 7 1,694
You would have to catch it first to see if it was a Buck, Then judge Most Animals are putting fat on now after a hard winter with the obundandce of food availble at this time of year, Quote Link to post
artic 595
cheers 4 commenting but how do u think a buck hare runs this time of yer To be honest the buck hare is fast anytime of year. I was out this morning and i must of seen 15/20 hares sitting around, running, playing. I sat and watched them for 20 odd minutes run and play twisting and turning. They will always have my up most respect. Even the CWD with young were out having a stroll and lying up in the breeze. Lovely! Edited May 11, 2009 by artic Quote Link to post
Guest SJM
Thats interesting Frank I never knew that Im sure coursing enthusiasts over here wouldnt object to something similar being in place and coursing being allowed in the winter months, rather than an outright ban on the sport alltogether Quote Link to post
inan 841
As some say over here, all hares this time of year, have a full belly of grass and young, they are not at their best, you get a few that are still strong, but most dont run like they do in mid winter.. Also, the Irish hare over here, is protected in the breeding season, but not protected in the uk. Frank. Preban people relied on a hunters conscience and sense of sportsmanship, something that seems to get rarer every year sadly. As Sarah says a breeding time ban would be welcomed by the majority of dog folk I think.
