Hunting Rabbits with Lurcher on Forestry Commision Land

Recommended Posts

I have two lurchers and over the winter i have done a bit of lamping with them.

I am considering getting a ferret and would like to know if it is legal to hunt for rabbits on Forestry Commision Land.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Regards

used to be able to get a licence to ferret forestry land but no dogs were allowed.

ring or write to them and ask if you could do some.

Think to hunt the land you have to pay for the hunting rights. My mate runs a shooting synidicate on the forrestry commission land up near reeth they pay them every year for the hunting rights for the land think its a kanny bit aswell.

Thanks all for your replies.

As suggested i have emailed the local Forestry Commision and they have said that licenses can not be granted because they have their own Forestry Staff who manage the animal population.

The chap went on to say that without a license you would be breaking the law.

I agree with those comments made by several of you on this thread "its legal until you get caught".

He also suggested contacting local farmers for permission. Is it best to write to them or just drive up to their farm?

Cheers again

Better to go in person, as letters are easy to ignore.

I've always found it easy to get ferreting permission, but lamping is harder, and easier gotten

if you've already got the ferreting permission, and done a good job causing no problems to the farmer.

Spot on paid i look like renta suspect buddy 19 stone 6,4 bald real easy on the eye :icon_eek: and when we asked a few for shooting rights on their fams well we did not get on to well but ferreting thats a diff thing ,i think the farmer can over look the fact that look like i was lost from the shooting of the planet of the apes and figures what harm can i do with ferrets, so alot said yes and then came the dogs lamping etc and now the guns.I mean this is just my view but it woorked for us buddy now we got loads of land i mean loads due to word of mouth. If you were closer i could prob help you out with a bit of land or at least you could come with us buddy.
