Ratreeper 441
I am almost certain i want a patterdale, something thats going to be a determined little ratter but also small and tough enough for anything else i might come across. I have heard bad things about working them with ferrets though or was this just a case of not introducing the pup young enough? This is my only worry but i am also interested about what people think about patterdale crosses, like jack russelXpatterdale would that suit my mostly ratting hunting better do you think? Any pics would be great. One last thing is who to buy off, i hope they are still bred pure and culled as necessary but if anyone can give me a contact they trust i would really appreciate it. cheers, sorry for no intro and this being my first post i will write one later Quote Link to post

And sureley good lines is good lines...........wether they are culled or not has little to do with it.......dose it? By the sound of it, you may be better to try and meet people who work there terriers near you before buying a dog.........better for you..........better for the dog. JOEB Quote Link to post
Ratreeper 441
i want a pat but i have seen more pat crosses advertised so i thought i would ask incase theres something i should know. Yep good lines are good lines i just want to make sure thats where mine comes from, not from some that shouldn't of been bred but thats just my opinion. cheers for the reply Quote Link to post

As I said try going out with some terriermen for a while.............I am sure they will point you in the right direction when the time comes to get your dog. JOEB Quote Link to post
Kane 2
If its mainly ratting with an occasional dig there is no need for a well bred terrier from tested lines a reasonably bred terrier will take it all in its stride. Not so good when it comes to posing around the beer tent or showring though always better if you can mouth off how well bred your terrier is etc etc. Quote Link to post
tutnteffi45 0
where are you and if its just ratting dont make much difference also is it an only dog or part of a pack as age introduced to pack makes a diff to patts Quote Link to post

donnyc 1,203
You wont go wrong with a border or anything cross with a border.. ..Steer clear of the whippet x beagle's though..oop's .. . i meant new plummer's.. :11: .. No seriously mate border's are mellow little dog's and get along fine with other terrier's.. ..all the pat's ive seen upto now are iffy with ferret's and slightly lacking in the brain cell department. Millet like it Quote Link to post
Ratreeper 441
I agree borders are great they would be my second choice but i will stick to my first instinct and get a patterdale i just love them. I have to disagree with you Kane i think thats a bad way to think but i see where your coming from, i wouldn't want to see a good dog go to waste. However this dog might get a lot more action than i thought so i need to keep my options open. I have seen a lot advertised so how can i sort the wheat from the chaff? Is there much written about the different bloodlines of pats i can read? thanks for the replies Quote Link to post

I have had several JRTs in the past but nothing to match the fire in this pups temperment With my Son and my Lurcher on a wet morning in the woods Quote Link to post
