stubby 175
y not charg abit all landowners hav an obligation to control the rabbits and pests on ther land The Prevention of Damage by Rabbits Act 1993 The Agricultural Act 1947 and the Prevention of Damage by Pests Act 1949 think you'll find the laws changed now, true they still need to control, but if the damage is to other land, they cannot be held responsable any more Quote Link to post
harrishawk01 0
Bollocks mate, I know of people and firms who charge for rabbit control in your area, and they get paid. Why? because farmers and landowners are sick of all the cowboys going on and just messing about, they would rather pay a proffessional a price and get the job done properley, within a fixed timescale. Well said!! If your going to do a professional job then you should be paid. If your going to do recreational shooting then you should pay. I have cleared acres over 4 fields of rabbit which last year wrecked the crops. I have reduced the numbers from hundreds to currently about 20 which given a further week or so will be near zero. Thus income on the fields this year up some 500%. Whilst I did this for free I have now been asked to do other area's for other farmers but just want an idea of how much people charge for this kind of thing. Per rabbit per visit per day. If someone is willing to pay money I am willing to take money but don't want to under sell these services or want to rip people off. Harrishawk01 Quote Link to post

Fieldsports 155
I do it both ways ! I sell Rabbits that I take " so the Rabbits are my pay " BTW, I am a registered business doing this as a main line of income. I have Some terms and conditions written I will give you some quotes from them that may answer your initial question. I hope this does not bore the head off you but I do the job for free if I can get good hits / big numbers that I can sell. YOU can not always do it for free or your Job becomes a hobby and you can not pay your bills with hobby pay so I tend to do this and I do not have a problem with getting the point across to landowners / Tennant's ( Keepers are a bit different , they really think they are doing you a favor by talking to you ). Quote from my T&C Sub Term A1 (*If there is not sufficient Rabbits or ground game on the land or if Rabbits or ground game or difficult to obtain / control due to poaching or visits by "hobby Rabbit catchers†or less professional people we will advise owner / tenant of the situation and we will apply a charge to cover ammunition and traveling expenses. (First visit always will be free*) Sub Term A2 (* If shooting Rabbits is required during the summer months and the extermination of young / small Rabbits is required we will apply a charge to cover ammunition and traveling expenses. *) Quote from my T&C Methods that are chargeable by ***** ********* Pest Control, we will only charge a minimum fee for labour and traveling expenses. All materials to carry out the work will be paid for in advance before work commences by the landowner or tenant. 1, Rabbit Gassing 2, Mole control 3, Rat and mouse control 4, Crow control / crop protection. 5, Rabbit control with .22 rifle where no vehicle access is permitted. 6, Rabbit Snaring (This is due to the fact we need to make multiple visits). 7, Rabbit proof fencing with drop boxes. Quote from my T&C Safety and landowners / tenant farmers responsibility to ***** ********* Pest Control. ***** ********* Pest Control always operates safely and safety is our number one priority. We are licensed to shoot where we as experienced firearm users “deem suitable†so there will never be any need to have any officers inspect your land to make sure that it will be suitable to shoot any of the firearms or ammunition that we choose to use to control pests or vermin on your land. It is the landowners or tenants responsibility to inform us of any known person likely to be on the land controlling pests or vermin. Our policy is “us only†this is because of the obvious safety reasons and also so that nothing is disturbed unnecessarily and the job can be carried out efficiently and with maximum impact. We reserve the right to decline any work where "hobby Rabbit catchersâ€. or less professional people may attend. We find out of experience that by allowing any novice on the land which can make matters worse and makes the control of the Rabbit much harder due to disturbance from undereducated "hobby Rabbit catchers". The owner / tenant must keep all dogs under strict control and avoid the immediate working area. Regards Steve Quote Link to post
Fieldsports 155
( Keepers are a bit different , they really think they are doing you a favor by talking to you ).Regards Steve I would like to take the opportunity to explain this quote. I have known and know lots of Keepers that are good friends but ( IN GENERAL ) They think they are doing you a massive favor by letting you on the place. I Will give you an example. A keeper comes on to a estate,( new hand at head keeper) where he is from they control rabbits by racing them with a quad and shotgunning them, now he does that now on the estate up where I am from and praising himself on the numbers of rabbits he shot. THEN he calls me in to do the Rabbit control.........So I hit the place with a .22 from a vehicle telling him afterwords that the Rabbits seem educated and are spooky to "lights, vehicles and head shots" his response is ( well there is plenty here ) and there may well be in visual numbers before they are attacked. He also has his mates shooting them with a .17 hrm when I am not there and then he expects me to clear the place !!!!!!!!! So I went to wires.... and left the guns at home ..( Saying I will ferret from sept to march )...I snared the place to death and got good hits, some places only got young Rabbits or pheasants but overall the spooky rabbits were Killed. NOW we have the new batch of "young ones" there everywhere honest. So now he is shouting on " in fun !! I think " "there is Rabbits everywhere " So I go out driving the fields and walking ( one night I shot 54 young and 7 big and the next night I shot 31 young and 2 big ) I done 19 trips to the place and it got worse and worse................ Well I mentioned that it is un-economical to kill these young rabbits and hit a further 44 young the next night and left them at his door !. He said this. The estate will not pay for rabbit control so do what you can and i will leave it with you. So unless he stops the quad trips with the 12 bore and the mates that he invites with the .17hrm my methods will not work. But he seems to think I fell out of a tree and hit my head on every branch on the way down. His mates with the .17 might shoot 10 or so that are "no good to sell" but that are fookin the place by the disturbance then so be it. WE ALL NEED TO PAY BILLS The keepers might have it free but I do not !!!!! And don't say Keepers are not making money ! cos I know THEY ARNT..... LOL PS: The same keeper could of easily put the bullets fired down to the estate and gave me them. Its a simple procedure to sign bullets over onto another firearms license holders certificate. He wants me to ferret the place from September......He has more chance of getting a nosh off the pope. Regards Steve Quote Link to post
