red setter or english pointer

which 1 is better i`ve a pick of 2 litters and wondering which yo get seen all parents and they are all very good ...but which is easy or better do you think..???????? :victory:

I have not owned either... but being a hill keeper in the past, and into following in field trials etc ive seen a bit of each working in the field to mark grouse and partridge on open hill... for me it would have to be the English pointer, as I like their style, they have awesome noses that work the wind and a good one will point you every covey on a stretch of hill. The Red/Irish setters seem that bit more clumbersome and gangly, some are down right bonkers aswell. Out of the setters the best workers ive seen were the English, but also the big Gordon setters are a good finder of game, and a steadier worker.

 

What will be expected of your chosen dog in the field?

well i have 2 pointers but was thinking of a red setter ...i shoot pheasants and we reliase patriage on the hills so mean hill and field work and some water work....thanks

didnt even no want 1 was they are nice dogs but wouldnt now were to get 1 but the red setter and pointers are over the road

try and find a working type breeder of them i have heard good reports about them but carn't understand why they avent been more popualar than the vizlas and the spinones.atvb
