Hi there, i have a 3 yr old red fell type terrier. I work him regularly. He hasn't failed on me yet. However he seems to have picked up the habit of giving a bark or two when he's travelling through a burrow. Could this be just eagerness or excitement? I know what the dog is about and when he's on he's on, simple as that but it just bothers me when he does it. Has anyone any ideas?

Why exactly dose this bother you fella?, if its not affecting what the dog dose, why worry about it?

dont worry about it,a lot of younger dogs yip when there younger,they usually settle down when they get a bit older.

I dunno why it bothers me to be honest mate. He was laid up for a few weeks half ways through last season and as soon as i got him out again he started doing it. I put it down to being excited but it reaaly bothered me when a neutral told me that i should get rid of the dog for doing this. I know the dog and like i said he didn't fail on me yet and he's the most worked dog we have. I know i shouldn listen to the neutral but it gets on my nerves when you bring someone out with ya and as soon as its over they're off bad mouthing the dog behind your back

if its getting up to it and staying then i wouldnt give a toss if it yodelled.

your mate sounds like a fair few i know,

macho know it alls that do very little with dogs go to every show they can and talk the talk.

funny when they see your getting a bit done they dont call anymore as you become one less to play to.

Does the dog yodell and then not find ? I think he is a little eager.

I know of one here in the states that is A-1 when on game, but he has been known to yodell a few times when noone was at home. Also, it gives the game a littlle heads up.

get used to men talking behind your back theres a lot of jealousy in terrier world. just ignore it, as long as your happy at with the dogs you have out your yard thats all that matters, fcuk the begrudgers. some lads out there are only to happy to see someones terrier cur they're the lads to stay away from, only go out with lads who are happy to see terriers do well and who'll give a terrier credit if it deserves it.

this is no fault,it doesnt give the quarry a heads up either,you can bet your quarry knows your about just approaching a earth by vibrations throo the ground,its just excitement,dont worry about it

Thanks lads for ye're opinions. Carreg this only started to happen at the second half of last season. He had been laid up for a while and as soon as i got him back out he started doing it. He's hyper at the best of times so i thought it was just excitement. I'll have a better understanding of the situation when the season starts
