Alright lads, posting this here to see if anyone has taken a few steps back with a terrier and built things up again. what it is, I had dug to my youngest twice at the tail end of last season and he did well for his first digs also had a Reynard on top walking country. They were simple straight forward earths, and he stayed on baying until we were through to him and the Charlie - I was landed, nice to have a steady Bayer in the kennels. I started quite late this season due to work but this week I took him back out to a known spot for his first time out this year. I don't 'hiss

Despite a sad year, we have still so funny adventures, thanks to our dogs. I present You Prunelle, 18 months, patterdale female during a walk. At the beginning, this was just a little walk.

Hello lads, merry Christmas and all that. I’ve got a terrier in my kennels that starting to test my patience. Great dog, keen as mustard and all that but time and time again I’ve broken through to her steadily baying away only to find she’s sat with something mid tube on one occasion I broke though and there was nothing there however last week I said to myself if I break through I’ll clear the tubes up and pop her back in to make sure it isn’t my fault rather than blame her. Lo and behold it was sat about a meter back from the open end of the tube and eventually bolted itself - Happy

Morning lads, so I’ve always had black fell terriers and work them to ground. But for a few years I’ve noticed people starting work slightly broken coated very short coupled terriers that are little savages. I never really get a clear answer to what’s in them but I really like the look of them. one chap told me he’d crossed his Sealyham with a Russel and it turned out a good little worker. Just wondering if anyone else has had any experience with this breeding specifically for earth work? thanks

I’ve just finished reading Nick Stevens book called “An obsession” and found it a really good read with a great insight into the life of a professional terrier man (Pre-ban). It got me wondering what made a great terrier man for the hunt, I know there are the obvious answers but Nick went into great depths discussing the success in fox population from good cover-laying in comparison to building artificials and went into great detail about the country and we’ll know earths. are there any well weathered terrier men that could cast their opinions into the past world of hunting and

Letting off the lead - Hello chaps, I was given a Powell bread bitch from a close friend who didn’t have the space nor time to accommodate. She came to my kennels at seven months, very game and unfortunately doesn’t always mix well with other dogs. I like to be able to walk mine off the lead, have them stock broken and have some recall! But this bitch is the most pig headed thing, off the lead, her head goes down and she’s off. I’ve tried and tried to improve things but she will not listen. Since having her I’ve accommodated for her ways and brought her on slowly, she

Hello there. I have a jack Russell pup coming in the next few weeks when he is ready to leave his mother. He’s from working stock and I am hoping to try him out when he’s ready. I would just like to get some advice or pointers from people on here as to what sort of diet you think is best for working terriers? I Want to keep him in best condition I can, strong and healthy. All comments very much appreciated.

Hello, would just like a few pointers from the more experienced members than me on the best way or their particular methods of breaking terriers to livestock? I have a relative that keeps poultry on an allotment that would let me take my pup through, but he’s 5 months now and like most working bred terriers he’s feisty and excited by fur and feather. I wouldn’t want any nasty mistakes to happen so any advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

For those not already aware, Alison Johnstone MSP (Scottish Green Party) has tabled a Private Member’s Bill, which if approved would have a severe, negative impact on all forms of hunting with dogs (including terrierwork). It is presently out for public consultation and that consultation period ends on 15th September 2019, which is less than a month away. It’s essential that you and as many other likeminded individuals as possible respond before that date. Before responding you are advised to read the comments and notes of guidance provided by the Scottish Countryside Alliance and/or Scot
