This is OUELL RM trap. Used for muskrats...nethertheless, it has proven itself highly effective in the dispatch of grey squirrels. These photo are of the RM set with the safety on. It is shown without it's artificial cedar tunnel.

This trap was introduced by Jordan Budenski around 2014. Extremely powerful trap... I put rubber bumpers at the end of the channels to protect the kill bar from damaging the metal. The only down side there is not a saftey. First known as a the Rat Cracker... now called a Rodent Tank. In some circles, it is referred to as a "Hell Box".

The KORO 'large rodent trap' double coil spring snap trap. AIHTS approved. Trap was positioned that squirrel entered from front and set within an artificial blind tunnel. KORO traps strike hard and fast!

Not having done my home work properly, I inadvertantly bought a fake Fenn Mk4 from someone in the Midlands. This guy turns out to be a regular trickster with the way he markets his fake Fenn traps. He calls them Fens or Fen/Springer. Anyway, the first thing I noticed was that the spring was nowhere near as strong as the real Fenn. So I tried it out over time and the fake made some kills but also some escapes. The grey squirrel reduction programme is going well to plan. Here's a clip of a Fenn Mark4 in action. Don't they just love peanut butter! Also a Tit (?) comes to watch. Now editted to shorter length.

Some of you probably know about this already, but it was new to me. The 'European Squirrel Initiative' publishes a regular newsletter on red and grey squrriels. I've made a fake nest box with a fenn trap in it to try to protect my mother's walnut tree. I have hung the box from a bough of the tree to keep it out of the way of her various animals, using four anchoring points so it does not sway around in the wind a lot. I have also hung a bird peanut feeder underneath to give the squrriels something to investigate. The trap itself is baited with a pat of peanut buttter. Unfortunately the day after I set the trap the squrriels started stripping the local hazel trees, so I guess they will not be intrested in anything else for a few days. My question i

Checking one of my most productive squirrel cages today (44 Squirrels from this one this year) I was suprised to find this rather agitated little fella had managed to get himself trapped. The cage is sited about four feet off the ground on a fallen pine tree that has conveniently lodged itself against an adjoining tree. The cage hasn't caught for a week or two so can't imagine it was the scent of a squirrel that attracted it..........just its inquisitive nature i suppose or maybe it had turned vegetarian and taken a fancy to the hazel nuts .........!
