Nice collection you have there pianoman, I am starting to look backwards instead of forwards when it comes to glass. Above all else I want simplicity and a nice, bright and clear image, I had the MTC which was great but I found it bulky and a bit over complicated for my needs, my prohunter is set at 6x mag for hunting and only goes higher when paper punching, I set the parallax to around 30 yards and off I go. The legend I believe is as close to parallax free as I've seen, 7X mag is great for zero, but then settle it down to between 5 and 6 for hunting. I'm really happy with it, I'd struggle t

Wheres it say 4.52? What you could do is message the seller and ask, bit of self help fella ?

I've got a Simmons prohunter 6-18X40SF for my , that's a lovely bright and clear scope, nice duplex too, it's a simmons from when they were good, not any of the s**t they started knocking out towards the end.

Thanks Rez, yeah, whilst more modern rets make shot placement easier, I would rather shoot "old school" and know the flight path of my pellets and adjust accordingly, my Mamba had the G4A ret so not used to multiple aim points. That's not to say that I won't one day have a "christmas tree" ret, just not yet, and FYI the rifle's not cute, it's a lean, mean hunting machine, you were right about my avatar though

So, swapped my MTC Mamba 3-12X44 RIR, I thought it was too big and heavy for my little Regal, I managed to swap it for a lovely little Bushnell Legend 2-7X32, which is an unbelievably bright and clear little scope and a better match for my Regal. The problem was that I only had high 25mm mounts from my Hawke, I ordered some mediums and as you can see the scope sits close home, the only issue was that I had to shift the scope back due to the saddle of the scope fouling the magazine, but it actually transpires that it's much better closer to the eye. I now have loads of wiggle room with eye reli

My Regal went to Carl at AirTech, it came back a very different beast. It's now an astoundingly accurate and consistent bit of kit, well worth it
-
Carl didn't send me any of the data from my Regal either, but he was more than happy for fill me in over the phone, I did ask him to send me some AirTech stickers, as they're aren't any on my rifle. He said he would but I'm not holding my breath, he's a very busy man and quite inward facing where his tuning work is concerned, just rest easy that whatever he has done is to make the rifle the best thing it can possibly be with many years of experience going into his work. Dare I say that he has made my Regal boring, every pellet just goes through the same hole
-
Thanks Simon, my mate is good with things like that and has the tools at his disposal so if the gun shop doesn't get back to me before our session at the farm on Sunday I'll let him loose on the barrel. I would send it to Carl sooner rather than later mate, it took a fair few weeks due to some family issues his end, plus I had a finance issue during that time, he was very understanding and kept hold of the rifle until I could pay. I realise I sound like a bloody AirTech salesman, but I really can't rave enough about the work he's done, he has made my Regal simply sublime. Andy

Honestly Pianoman, was a nightmare Saturday, the only saving grace is that the 80's firing cycle is unbelievable, all I need to do is make sure the pellets are going where I need them lol. I have emailed Portsmouth Gun Centre, if they have someone that can do it then I'll give them a go, I wait with baited breath. On the plus side, I also had the Regal out and found the pellets to suit it (back to sovereigns), now it's bordering on boring, hit the bull with the first shot then all the rest just go through the same hole lol. Did you speak to Carl about getting yours regged mate?
-
Hi all, so after taking delivery of my Tin Bum short stroke extension kit I spent Saturday fitting it, it was fairly straight forward, but I had issues removing the v-mach piston seal, leading me to taking off a large portion of my thumbnail in the process. After lots of blood I got it off and managed to get the extension on and piston back in the rifle, I then had issues getting the barrel screw back in (thread was not biting), I was getting quite angry, I tried hammering (not with a hammer mind) the screw in the bite the thread, but to no avail, it was at this point I may have thrown the rif

A Few More Pellet Tests, Hw100 .177
andykllhr replied to philpot's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
it's only a couple of months old and probably only had a tin and a bit's worth of pellets through it, he was given 4.50 exacts with it and that's what he's been using. I'm just sure that the groupings (20mm at 35 yards with bipod) could be bettered, I would have thought it should be pellet on pellet at that range? -

Ok, I'll tell him to get a 4.53 sample pack and try them. Thanks philpot -

What size of JSB Exacts are you using? I only ask cos my pal is using 4.50 and I am convinced that 4.51 would be better? -
Thanks Carl, I have some AA field 4.52 lying around so I'll give them a go, I'll try filling slower next time, would be helpful with the gauge on my dive bottle fixed though, think I might have rammed 280 bar in the gun ?
-
Providing the cylinder pressure is higher than the regulator pressure (110 ish bar) then you get a full power shot, exactly the same as the hundred or so that preceeded it. So yeah, filling to 230 bar, you can shoot down to 110, which is loads of shots. Well worth doing pianoman, Carl has made the Regal a really top level performer, as I said before, when he was testing he said that accuracy wise it would give top end target rifles a run for their money and it was too good for hunting lol
-
Yes, because of the position of the gauge on the gun, it now only records the regulator pressure unfortunately, but no dramas if you can register through the bottle when filling. I will have to get a new combro, I shot through mine with my about six months ago, I put it to one side and my missus thought it was rubbish. I only realised when I researched getting it fixed, would have only cost me £7, but now I'm stuck with £45+ for a new one.
-
On another note, I also wanted a black cocking bolt for the rifle, the shiny chrome is hardly tactical. After searching around and only finding one on eBay for £36+ I gave Daystate a call, they make black ones for the Regal for £19 posted, bargain
-
I think you're right with your comments lads, I have aspired to own a Daystate since I was 14 when I used to drool over them in airgun world, and when I finally got one it was far from the supergun it should have been. However, for less than £100 and some time with Carl it is what it always should have been, it's now a truly fantastic rifle, light, balanced, really pointable, astoundingly accurate and consistent. I have yet to test the shot count, but it's pointless until I get my gauge fixed on my bottle, but as I can now charge to 210+ bar, I imagine it would be greatly improved from the 82

Ok lads, well we spent an extended range session at the farm this morning, a few hours with the Regal and my mates HW100 (he just bought a Optisan ESX scope he had to zero, bloody lovely by the way). Unfortunately my dive bottle's gauge is broken so I had no idea the pressure I was filling to and because of the position of the Regal's gauge, it now only registers the regulator pressure (110 bar). So I filled the gun for about 10 seconds, which may have led to the first issue, I filled 2 mags with the AA field 4.51, which is what it loved before the work, however they were all over the place, a

Whilst she was away I also had a crack at her stock with some 0000 wire wool and then hand applied tru oil, great result I think, not overly shiny but that grain really pops. I'll add some more photos tomorrow as lighting is pretty bad in my dining room
-
Well lads here she is, back from Carl and I am happy to say that the rattle from the shroud is no longer present, zero chance of clipping as my silencer screws directly onto the barrel, the regulator appears to be doing its job excellently so far. However, I will be take her into the field tomorrow for an extended zero and target session and will update when I get back, but if the little garden plink I've had so far is anything to go by, I'm going to be a happy chappy

Any word on a .20 variant arriving at any stage lads?
