Fingers crossed, that whisper was pants for sure
-
Still looks good with the SAK ?
-
Ok, so popped back to the gun shop and swapped the mod, I now have a SAK fitted, will road test tomorrow and make a decision ?
-
Yeah this is a subsonic.22

Hi guys, well, picked up the rifle today tried a couple of different mods on and liked the look of the Wildcat Whisper slightly more than the SAK, already been to the farm and done a quick zero, man this rifle is accurate. I have a question though, should there be a slight crack when a mod is used, I've previously used a .22 and can't remember hearing a crack? I've spoken to the gunshop and they are more than happy to swap it for a SAK or something else, but I wanted people's opinions on here first. Thanks guys
-
Yeah that's the plan ?
-
Thanks Deker, went to the shop yesterday, unfortunately the gun hadn't arrived, parcelforce were late (shocker), so didn't pick the annie up. However, I did have a look at the mods they had in stock, and the SAK is one of them, but they did have one that was a reflex mod so intrigued to see how that will look, will post some pics when I can.
-
Thanks for that, what does the SAK look like on a rifle? Doesn't look that much wider than the Sako?
-
Picking up my Annie today, any recommendations on mods lads? Want long and slender as opposed to short and fat, effective as possible obviously. Thanks ?

Can you show me a 14" thumbhole .22LR weatherby? Can't find one

Thanks guys, the FAC and SGC was on my doormat when I got home, was granted everything I wanted ?
-
So, unfortunately my FAC/SGC was not on the doormat when I got back ffs, so the wait continues, however, today I ordered a rifle which I can obviously only pick up once the paperwork has arrived. After much deliberation and research I have ordered a brand new Anschutz 1417 Thumbhole, not exactly cheap, but from the reviews is pretty much second none. Now all I have is the painful wait until my FAC arrives ?
-
Unfortunately not, we've got two small kids with us so fairly limited where we can go with times etc, however, we did go to a place right by that in the port, the planes went right by us, was pretty cool (pic attached). I'm leaning towards the sako anyway, always loved the look of laminate stocks and it's at the shop, so if my FAC is home then I can just pop to the shop and pick it up. Should be zeroing Saturday ?

In Skiathos until Friday, lovely out here. Yeah I spent 12 years in the military and shot a lot whilst I was in, pretty good with 5.56 and 7.62 at extended ranges, had a lot of fun with .338 too. Thanks for the advice though, I was more after rifle choosing advice than shooting wisdom ?

Back on topic, my local gun shop has a Sako finnfire 2 laminate in stock with a 16" barrel, how do the finnfires stack up against annies? Theres not much price difference, I would have to order an Anschutz in so would take about a week or walk away with the Sako. Any thoughts guys?

Sounds like Japanese philosophy, not sure what splogging is? I am currently on holiday in the med so I'm hoping my ticket is on my doormat waiting for me. I've been hunting with sub 12 ft lbs rifles for quite a few years so my field craft is pretty good, always room for improvement obviously, plus the wind affects those little pellets pretty badly too. Rest assured I won't just head out and start gatting the countryside like a rank amateur.

Don't apologise, some very interesting points here, I'm a noob when it comes to rim/centrefire rifles so all this information and the opinions are great. I have put a slot for a .17 hmr down for a bit longer range when required so I am very interested in people's opinions of it, I'd never considered .22 WMR. Please continue ?

I managed to pick up a Leupold VX-2 3-9X40 when I was in the states, so that will be going on my LR, very impressed with leups, I've got a VX-2 2-7X33 on my MFR too so scope is not an issue. I did have a look in my local gun shop today, they had a lovely Sako finnfire 2 laminate which was nice but was still £715, so not far off a similar anschutz. I love the look of the thumbhole 1417, but if I want one they'll have to order it in because they don't hold them in store.

Afternoon all, now my FAC is (hopefully) inbound, time to start shopping what to get. I have been looking at a new .22LR Anschutz XIV thumbhole for starters and then shift some of my legal limit rifles for my .17 HMR (if granted). Do people have any opinions of the Anschutz or any other models I should be looking at? Looking at short, accurate and lightweight. Thanks in advance

I will move on to Deer, but when I have got more experience and completed a few courses, then I can justify a deer rifle, until then I can carry on as I have been. I'm just chuffed that I can now walk into a gunshop and buy what I want (within calibre and slot conditions lol)

Interview done with a thoroughly nice FEO, was happy with everything except the 7mm which is pretty much talked myself out of anyway. Should be good for .22LR, .17HMR, .20 & .22 FAC air, but we will have to see what comes from the vetting office. Really happy, thank you all for your wise words ?
-
Very valid points being raised Gents and it's giving me more questions to ask my FEO so I thank you all for that. I will ask about Scotland, my wife's uncle has completed a raft full of deer stalking courses, I wonder if a letter or email from him to my FEO will make any difference, I will ask and see what happens. I would like an open ticket obviously, but a closed is still good, I will update on Thursday. Thanks again guys null

Well, once locally, I have plenty of places to go in Scotland, but since the new rules up there I've only been once. I am on the constant hunt for new permissions, but they are hard to come by down here.
-
I'll try and push for an open ticket, as the wife's uncle has a couple of permissions in Scotland, one is actually the estate he lives on, so I am hopeful if required I can get a letter or email from the custodian up there, but will see if required first. Thanks for all the wise words lads
-
Nah, I imagine I'll be restricted to my permission until renewal, but that's fine
