  1. So you got a new pup then Keith? What type have you gone with?
  2. I can only talk from my own experience but I have seen a Pedigree Whippet kill pre ban Hares in big fields single handily on numerous occasions. Also the nose on a whippet is not given the credit that it deserves. What a whippet might lack in terms of top end speed they certainly make up for with their nose ??
  3. Young whippet pup seems to be catching a few daytime rabbits when mooching. The first couple he brought straight back to hand but after the older dog snatching them off him he has started to get possessive when she is there an now stands over them and moth them. He's okay when he's on his own (retrieves live and relatively undamaged to hand) but I could do with some advice as to any remedy for when the other dog is there. Any ideas?
  4. Think that they are relatively popular mate. Saw loads at Midland game fair last weekend. Supposed to of been very good pre ban hare but not quite as sharp on rabbits. Lots of lads say that they used to kill pre van fox too
  5. I had to wait 18 months with my whippet dog. Immature as f**k though and very mentally sensitive. I did try him at 9 months but he barely understood what was going on but by the time he got to 14 months his prey drive went through the roof. As mentioned above - depends on the dog and I think that good advise would be enter late rather than early.
  6. Hey up Razor! Welcome to the forum.. I hope that it remains to be a decent resource for you!! BBB
  7. Penny did a really good article that will help you with retrieving and recall. http://www.thehuntinglife.com/the-value-of-tug-games-with-puppies/ Really helped me and my young whippet with retrieving to hand about a year ago. You need patience with this (as you do with any training method). Cheers BBB
  8. I've got a Whippet Greyhound Beddy and she has had issues with her feet when I have ran her hard. Can only speak from my own experience. She is a good dog though and I would definitely have a Beddy x again!
  9. Love the YouTube videos. Looking forward to seeing more this season!!
  10. Brilliant picks Keith! Was nice to bump into you today. That whippet of yours doesn't mess around!! All the best BBB
  11. Let them hunt up in long grass. Mine run for hours this way.
  12. Yeah it's at Peover. Here is a link to the website. Got some Lurcher racing http://www.cheshiregameandanglingfair.co.uk
  13. I have asked this question before but need to ask again.. What is people's issue with whippets? People either love or hate them. I definitely love them but can't understand why the haters hate
  14. Definitely start on the Lamp mate. A hell of a lot of people start their dogs on the lamp
  15. If you go on to the working whippets group on Facebook there is a litter of Bedlington Whippets for sale. From Workington All the best, BBB
  16. Lots of people tell you to go for a 'middle of the road' puppy as it should be biddable and confident (in theory). The whippet pup that I picked up seemed to be the maddest and most adventurous one out of the bunch but in all fairness - he has been really easy to train and is no where near as loopy as when I picked him at 7 weeks old however I will often see flashes of it when you see how he behaves with other dogs. I suppose it depends what you want.. But looking at the thread it sounds like the you can get a good understanding of how the pup will turn out in later life by looking at
