  1. Hi guys. Been a member on this forum for a while but I can't upload photos. Can someone explain how you do it? BBB
  2. I do it out of a natural desire to 'catch'. And I do get a feeling of satisfaction when I get home having successfully caught a decent bag even though I have a fridge full of food. I suppose that I like getting back to basics! BBB
  3. The permission belongs to me though. Utopia for me would be that I am the only person hunting on my permission. And I bet that you wouldn't call me a dick if we were face to face pal
  4. The deal that I have on my new permission is that I help keep an eye on the land and act as a set of eyes and ears for the farmers and the Gamekeeper. I have bumped into a couple of lads in the last few months on my permission. The first one was a lad with a rifle shooting Rabbits at night and the 2nd were 3 lads with a few coursing dogs on a Sunday morning. The lad with a rifle startled me a little bit and I was nice to him and explained where there was a better field where he could shoot more rabbits (little to his knowledge I was pointing him in the direction of neighbouring land whe
  5. Must of had a bit of bad luck with that whippet mate. My whip will catch Hares with no problem (pre ban). Also never ever yapped when in persuit of game..
  6. Pure Whippet also s lot of fun. You can train these like a gun dog and they will take to it like a duck to water. Excellent nose in them too.
  7. Whip/Grey/Bedlington mate. I have got this mix on my 3 year old bitch. She is very very easy and responsive and never uptight or complicated. A bit hard mouthed but retrieves live to hand. Clears 5 bar gates. Walks to heal. Excellent recall. Won't sit (but many Lurchers don't because it is uncomfortable for a slight dog to sit on hard ground). Pre ban hare fox not a problem (day and night). Tough as nails too. I love this mix and will definitely be sticking with it moving forward BBB
  8. But there is moisture in the grass weather it has rained or not. Grass is made of 85% water so when a rabbit is eating grass it is also drinking water.. that's why you never see a rabbit drinking lol
  9. Went out locally this evening for an hour with the Whip/Grey/Beddy bitch and there was a light drizzle in my area. I have heard a lot of fellas on here saying that rabbits are more active in this weather, and I have to say that from my experience this is true. But why?? Why are there more rabbits about in this weather? I have noticed that it is significantly better with a light drizzle but I can't put my finger on why!
  10. I wouldn't look into the bloodline of a whippet to much because I think that pretty much all of them work.
  11. Is this permission big enough for 10 rabbits a piece night after Night? Also - won't the rabbits be lamp shy come the finals?
  12. I'm up for it. Can I enter both of my dogs?
  13. Number 3. And I believe that with hard work you can make average dogs turn into amazing dogs!! BBB
  14. I'm glad that you asked this question.. I will basically be in the same position as you in 12 months. Currently got a whippet and lurcher but I go beating weekly and will get a spaniel soon. The spaniel will be a beating dog primerily and will also do some bushing for my other dogs. Please let me know how you get on mate
  15. I got the Red and White lamp at the same time as the 150 mate. It is basically a spotting lamp. Very very good when Red because you can see eyes very far back but you need to have another person with a 'proper lamp' for when you want to run the quarry. Me and my mate do it that way and it has improved our bag size significantly
  16. I try not to go any earlier than 12.00am Sometimes go at 5:00am locally on a weekend if I'm awake. This does seem to be the best time for me. Get a hell of a lot of runs. Even on permission I don't want to be seen by anyone in a house etc because I value being inconspicuous as one of the best traits of a good Lurcherman. It can take only 1 comment to be made before your permission is lost. My advice - treat your permission with the same respect as you would do if you were somewhere that you shouldn't be!
  17. Never considered a sprocker. Might be a good shout
  18. WHAT a beddy whippet soft mouthed never been heard of to some people lol Hahahaha!! Agree with Northernnilly here! When My Beddy Whip Grey brings back rabbits the are mashed. Whippet has the same issue as your dog though. He has dropped rabbits a couple of times on the way back to me because he is so soft mouthed. He has started to learn now though. I do prefer a soft mouthed dog. He will learn
  19. It doesn't need to be fast, however, a fast dog is my preference - I enjoy watching (and owning) fast working dogs. I also think that it goes better with Field Trials
