  1. Yeah. There was a full moon last night where I am with no wind but we did manage to get really really close to some rabbits. Did come home empty handed but we had some good fun and I learned a thing or two.
  2. Hi all, I went out last night with the Tracer 150 LED (took the red filter too). My first time laming and my first time using a lamp. I have heard the expression 'lamp shy' before but I'm not sure if if these rabbits are lamp shy or not. When shining the red light on them they just seem to stay calm and look back at it but as soon as I use the lamp without the filter the vast majority scarper and we are usually left with one or two in the field (they were the ones sat in the middle of the field). Sorry if this sounds stupid to any of you but is it normal most of the rabbits to run
  3. Is there anything wrong with a ped whippet? ?
  4. Hi, I am looking at getting a working GSP puppy in the next year that I intend on working on a local shoot for picking up, for use when shooting myself day and night and I would potentially add her into the odd field trial over the summer. I am just wondering if it will get along well with my whippet and if my life will be made difficult. I currently have a working whippet who I use for lamping. He lives in the house and is a very calm family pet when inside. He gets on really well with other animals and his favorite breed to play with is a working cocker. It is worth mentioning that w
  5. Just wanted some advice on where / how folks are measuring their dogs to the shoulder. To me it is not obvious where it is that you measure to. Obviously there must be a standard place but I'm not sure where that is because I think that I have been measuring my dog to the back rather than to the shoulder!! ?
  6. Doesn't look like people much rate these Hankock dogs
  7. Lots of Rabbits and Hare my end. South Cheshre BBB
  8. Hello Lucy, Welcome to the forum BBB
  9. I agree with Smithie, the shoot haven't done anything wrong here but the farmer has shafted you. Shocking behaviour!!
  10. A combination of Tripe, Offal, Raw Meat & veg backed up with dry dog food in between raw meals. Works a treat for my dog. Since the raw meat and offal I have seen a big change in him, his energy levels, his coat, his skin has all got better. Worked for me and my dog - I'll never go back to 100% dry food. The abbetoir sells decent fresh offal at really low prices - also tripe can be picked up on the day that it has been killed. BBB
  11. Hi, I'm looking at getting a lamping kit for my first whippet puppy. Both me and the pup will be new to lamping. I'm happy to pay more if it means getting a good kit As always - all advice is useful to me Thanks BBB
  12. Managed to get 15 sheep's stomachs for £3 last week from the abattoir. I also bought some Ox tongue, 40 lambs kidneys and some liver. I separated it into 40 containers with the addition of brown rice, sweetcorn, peas, broccoli and carrots before putting it into the spare freezer in the garage. To say that the dog 'loves it' would be a fair understatement! I can see a real big change in the way that he is when we are out walking too. His energy levels are through the roof!! He is as busy as my (soon to be) father in laws springer and he seems as alert as any dog that I have ever seen. E
  13. Hi, With the many variations of Lurcher that can be used for different types of hunting and I was wondering what people considered to be the key attributes of a dog used specifically for Lamping. And any training tips that can be employed while bringing a dog on to use predominantly as a lamping dog. Thanks
  14. I paid £4 for a full black bin bag. Took hours to cut up. I think that lots of people can get it free from butchers
  15. Thanks for the replies - how long will it stay fresh for?
  16. The hare coarsing was an accident - the hare just happens to be in the field that we were walking in.
  17. Started to feed my pup on tripe. Decided to get the green tripe from the butcher. Absolutely stinks!!!! He is 6 months and looks a bit skinny with ribs showing so the tripe should bulk him up a bit (I hope) Can anybody else vouch for tripe. Or is there anything else that I can feed him that will bulk him up wit hip stinking out the garden and making me feel sick? Thanks
  18. Funnily enough it was the hare that he has had the best run on! Coursed it for ages and was hot on its tail until they both disappeared over into the next field. Found him at in the next field as the hare managed to get away. Just don't want to get him into the habit of not catching because he isn't ready and have low confidence as a result!
  19. Hi all, On my regular walks with my 6 month old pup there appears to be an abundance of rabbits. Many of which see my pup before he sees them and make it to ground without being noticed. There are however a good few that he does manage to see (from a distance that even the best rabbiting dogs would not catch from) and he will chase them but he is still very puppy like in the respect that he seems to be 'chasing them away' rather than attempting to catch them. Following some useful advice I won't be starting him until he is 12-14 months old but I was wandering if I should avoid showin
