Not One For Long Shots.....but!
David Aiken replied to David Aiken's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Just checked the laser and it's set to meters. I'm back on the permission next week, I'll see if it was in meters or yards when I took the reading. I did aim high, so the mil dot @ 'head center' was 149 yards. It will be interesting to check the range! -
I usually stick to around 65 to yards for rabbit head shots. I was out today with my Anschutz 1417. I had my mil dot chart and laser sight with me. I took a perfect head shot on a rabbit..........126 yards :-) One very dead rabbit!

Another permission in the bag :-) A five acre garden with a nine foot wall to three sides, perfect for the 17 hmr! Plus 25 acres of farmland. Plenty of Rabbit, Pigeons, Squirrels and Magpies :-)

Off to see about another permission this afternoon. Could this bring in my seventh permission? :-)

That's interesting! I'm putting a variation in soon (also North KENT) and would like .243 for fox and later on deer. Who was your FEO? We may have the same one as I met several before my .22lr & .17hmr were put on an open certificate.

.243 / .270 Or .308 At Renewal
David Aiken replied to maktayla's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
That might be a difficult sell as in the UK it's falls within the remit of a big game calibre based on energy. Whereas I can see an outside chance against boar, I think you'd really struggle to get any grant in the UK against deer. That's not to say you definitely won't, just that it might not be easy and there's a high chance of refusal. I know several people who have them for deer in the uk. 29 for sale on gun trader, someone's using 300 wm! I've a friend who dose and swears by its flat trajectory and capabilities. -

.300 Winchester Magnum https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/.300_Winchester_Magnum -
I got £500 instant payment as a sorry from their insurance when the Jeep was hit. The total payout was about 6 weeks. the Jeep was a write off, I got £600 and kept the Jeep. As they hit my rather large farm hitch, I had no damage, just a scratched bumper hence the write off. The only crap was even though I wasn't at fault my insurance went up £300 as according to my insurance company I drive in dangerous places!!!

My fav is the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 5.9 V8 with a bolt on supercharger. Looks standard until you race one at the lights, This Jeep would accelerate 0-60 mph in 7.6 sec and a quarter mile in 15.8 sec. And that's without the added supercharger! Then your looking at 0-60 mph of under 6 sec and low 14 sec quarter mile! My 4.0lt Grand Cherokee still manages 0-60 in 8 sec!

The question was `the best` .22lr Anschutz 1417 .17 hmr Anschutz 1517, any scope above £300, any half decent mod.

Same here, I clean every 1000 rounds or so. I guess we are lucky the EU haven't band the practices due to the heavy metals and toxic residue and grouped the cleaning of moderators in with the CFC danger
-
Just picked up a new SAK moderator. The supplied instructions state `due to heavy metals and toxic residue SAK do not recommend the cleaning or dismantling of their moderators. Cleaning is unnecessary` Is this just a precaution on their part, or don't shooters clean moderators any more?

Anyone know where I can get hold of an lower (under) firing pin for my old Sabatti? I'm on the verge of scrapping this gun as the shop price of a repair I can do myself is higher than its worth!

I brought these http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B008M6ISY4/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1456663763&sr=8-2&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=aigle+parcours+wellies&dpPl=1&dpID=41X1kNELMqL&ref=plSrch years ago, still perfect, warm and cool. Great for walking. How much have you spent on all those pairs of cheap wellies? It's like going for the cheapest possible scope and wondering why it doesn't perform as well as a more expensive models.

I've been using my Webley Patriot .25 FAC to great effect since Christmas.

Mobile Phone Jammer / Car Transponder Fob Damage?
David Aiken replied to David Aiken's topic in General Talk
Agreed to the Mhz and I hope the garage is wrong! But if this device can cover a large band with http://www.jammer4uk.com/new-adjustable-mobile-phone-jammer-with-remote-control-p-28.html?zenid=qiotht65a9fs628bk8p1ro8ia6 could there be one covering 400 to 800 Mhz? The RAC said a phone mast can interfere with a key fob transponder. And the location of high powered radio masts and their problems are mentioned in the Jeeps alarm / immobilizer handbook from 1998, could it be due to `old ` tec and coincidence driving near a phone mast? Maybe they have this as well? If they didn't know what they -

It seems only a Jeep garage has the software? The new fob was £70 the rest was the coding (upto 3 fobs) The only other place I found wonted £90 and couldn't guarantee a fix so I went for a new fob. -
Picked the wife up from work and the 1998 Jeep wouldnt start, as in the key fob wouldn't operate. I was recovered by the RAC and he got the key fob working. The next day it failed again and as no local mobile auto electricians had the correct software to help, I was recovered and taken to a Jeep garage. The original key fob can no longer be coded, even with new batteries. So, one new key fob plus re-coding = £149. The garage said, as the batteries were very low (in the key fob) a radio mast or mobile phone jammer could have caused the transponder in the Jeep to forget the key fob and as the ba

And in Farmers Weekly this week! Man fined for poaching on farm ‘was just catching a rabbit’ He was carrying a dead rabbit and was accompanied by a Lurcher-type dog. When officers challenged him he replied he was “just catching a rabbit”. He was fined £155 and had all of the items on him at the time of the offence seized by officers and then forfeited. This included lamping equipment and battery packs. http://www.fwi.co.uk/news/man-fined-for-poaching-was-just-catching-a-rabbit.htm
