  1. Its was the whole `shoots like a pig` that got me, I just had to give it a try! Even though loads of forum sites say the Patriot needs a learning curve, it still gets pick up, shot a couple of times and dismissed as a novelty rather than a serious hunting tool. I think it has more of a following in the US. I guess this is in part due to our strict FAC rules and `why buy when you can have .22lr`. It is hard to cock after 20 or so shots, but I don't intend (I don't think it ever was) to spend hours plinking!
  2. Another point is the Patriot has a muzzle report of 96db. I started without ear protection but after testing the db use my `Shooters Aid Sonic 2 Hearing Protection Ear Plugs` http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370602924475?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT It was not until their use the volume of the`crack` became apparent!
  3. I've always fancied a FAC springer! While applying for my .22lr I added .25 air and purchased a Webley Patriot in .25 cal. The open sights seemed to cover the target @ 35 yards so I was unable to zero to an acceptable degree for rabbit shooting. After fitting a scope there wasn't much improvement, 3" groups at best. I did put the Patriot up for sale, but after not selling decided to have another go! With a better and now zoom scope (shooting @ my usual 6 x) I could have another try! Well after trying many different holds and trigger pulls I've come to the conclusion the Webley Patriot is accur
  4. Kentish Pip, Biddenden Special Reserve Cider @ 13% if you like drinking halfs! Also, Biddenden Strong Kentish Cider (Dry). There again, there's Walking Gingerly by Big Cider Tree. My local specialises in local cider and real Ale ;-)
  5. Not that I wish to `get in on the solid/expanding ammunition argument` but I read this in SportingUK. "If you have a semi-automatic .22 rimfire then dependability is important and the new RWS Semi Auto cartridge is superb. Yes it is a solid bullet, not hollowpoint, but as head shots are the norm, it is of no consequence". http://www.shootinguk.co.uk/shooting/pest-control-shooting/best-pest-control-cartridge-38560
  6. Both, you can buy solid with your current FAC and you can shoot target as a guest with an authorised/approved club, but if you want a specific target condition, or if you join a club you will need to request a target condition be added to your FAC, and you will only get that as a member of an authorised club. Otherwise you will be limited to Zeroing. It may seem a bit daft (possibly it is a bit daft) but that's the way it is! Thanks, just the answer I needed :-) My FEO was suggesting NO to buying solid and NO to club shooting. All I want is to every now and then zero in at club! W
  7. No snow here since buying my 4x4 3 winters ago ;-)
  8. I truly can't see what your problem is. As with all S1 firearms, you are required to demonstrate your good reason to posess. If your applied for one stating your good reason to posess a S1 shotgun is for "practical" shooting, then surley you must expect to prove that you are a member of a club that holds practial shotgun events or are a personal member of the UKPSA thereby giving acess to affilaited grounds on which practical shooting events take place. It's not the joining of a club or membership of the UKPSA as I will be doing both, it's the being forced to do so and told its a l
  9. Message sent to the members helpline of the BASC firearms dept.
  10. So as I now see it ammunition aside. My .22lr rifle is conditioned for vermin and only varmin. The club did not ask if the rifle was conditioned for target, but also during my conversation with my FEO while explaining what I intended to do gave no mention of this variation being needed. I will get this checked out with the club and FEO
  11. From your conversation with your FEO, do you think perhaps your FEO got the impression that you were enquiring about you target shooting rather than buying solids for general use. If this is the case, then your FEO would have been correct in saying that you can't take part in target shooting unless your FAC is so conditioned and you can't get it conditioned for target shooting unless you are a member of a club. I don't understand? How can I not be able to take part in target shooting unless my FAC is so conditioned? What if, as with many of the probationary members I have no FAC at all
  12. So you're saying if for Practical Shotgun we can be forced to join an organisation whose policies we many not agree with? I understand having to be a member of a club which has practical shooting as an activity, but to be forced to join an organisation whom itself say no one should be forced to join it seems a little odd?
  13. I would, but the land isn't cleared for anything other than .22lr
  14. According to http://www.shooterscalculator.com/point-blank-range.php the high velocity would increase the PBR from 70 yds for subs to yrd with a 2" target. A very usable extra 30 feet!
  15. I`ve always used Eley Subs, has anyone used their `high velocity`? http://www.eley.co.uk/eley-subsonic-hollow http://www.eley.co.uk/eley-high-velocity-hollow
  16. I full intend to Join the UKPSA either as an affiliated or individual membre so for me not a problem. My concern is, as the UKPSA have views on the proposed amendment to the ownership of certain semi-autos in private hands and indeed ask you to read their `stop the bad` page gives them a view which could be considered as political and/or anti European Union Policy. As such can a FEO or licensing authority try to force a member of the public to join such an organisation against their wishes. I think this is dogged ground at the very least!
  17. I did think as much, but do we dare challenge our FEO?
  18. Well, I`ve got my variation .......well almost! .22lr to changed from closed to an open ticket: Granted. .22 FAC air: Granted and also open. An increase from 600 to 1000 rounds of ammunition: Granted FAC Section 1 Shotgun: Granted when I`m a full member of Maidstone Pistol Club (6 months) send in details with no additional variation fee. My only quibble is the need to be either an individual UKPSA member or a member of a club that's an affiliated a member. I was under the understanding the UKPSA was a volunteer organisation as is the BASC and discourage shooters being forced to
  19. I have 600 round of expanding .22lr ammunition on my FAC for vermin control and to zero in. When I was going to Bisley last year for a BASC range day I noticed my booking email made it clear solid ammunition only, no expanding. I rang Bisley to see if I could buy solid ammunition while on my range day, their response was "I`d no need as my FAC was for expanding so I could purchase expanding OR solid at any gunshop. It was having a FAC stating just solid which stopped the purchase of expanding. I had a conversation with my FLO today and as I now shoot target I wished to increase my ammu
  20. Yep, no worries here. I live each and every day to the full. Always wanted to walk in the remote areas of the British Isles (walked most of the long distance footpaths, walked all over Dartmoor, Exmoor, Peak District and Lake District) Alway wanted to climb mountains (I've rock climbed all over Wales, Scotland and the French Alps plus mountaineering in the Alps) Fancied a 4x4 (got a 4.0lt Jeep) Love Astronomy (got a huge 10" Reflector on a EQ6 Mount) Passed my Counselling Degree, motorbike and car tests. Got a shooting permission (.22lr and 1/2 dozen shotguns) Passed all my St John exams. Huge
  21. Just got my first Rabbit of the season. Nice and early in the day, so gutted it while still warm for a change! (I forgot how much easier its is when there still warm!) Only kept the saddle and hind legs but still came in at 1lb 2oz of high quality meat!
  22. £5 from every Council Tax paying household. So just Council Tax payers, no one else pays ant extra? And all we get is 37 more armed police. Just imagine the monetary shortfall if all officers were trained and all carried arms! Still, this £5 won't help in the faster turnaround for FAC and SGC applications.
  23. My pet like would be to have a Train ticket type complaint / refund system for failure to provide an efficient service: So a New FAC to take a maximum of 12 weeks, 16 weeks and you get 1/2 the fee returned, 20 weeks and it's a full refund. As for a variation, 6 weeks maximum, 10 weeks 1/2 fee returned and 16 weeks full refund! Then the licensing departments would have to pull their socks up and produce an efficient service! Maybe a campaign / poll is needed to ask the BASC to make this a policy to fight for?
