Nice one Tomo. I remember you putting up a post about a hemp long net you had bought. I was just wondering how you've been getting on with it?
-
Goes with the territory fella, thats what Collie crosses are all about, LOYALTY!. Why would you want it any other way. Obviously your dog has bonded with and want to be with you and please you as much as it can. Look at it as a bonus rather than a problem. You wouldn't want a dog that couldn't give a shit whether you're there or not would you.

I have extensive land to shoot over and several willing landowners. I've never been convicted and have had plenty of fire arms and shotgun experience in the past with two years keepering under my belt. I held a shotgun certificate eighteen years ago but let it slide once the running dogs really got hold of me. I was thinking of getting a 22 rim fire initially and then moving up to a larger caliber later if my work required it. I will really need an open cetificate, how easy are these to obtain?

Strictly vermin control. I have a view to working in pest control and see this as an essential bit of kit.

I'm giving serious thought to applying for my FAC 1. Would any of you have any advice when it comes to the application?

I'm sure keeps you wouldn't mind if I elaborate on the lineage of Indie's Working Beardie blood line. The Beardie blood in Indie is from the Tom Muirhead line of working Beardie. Virtually all working Beardies carry this line as the gene pool for genuine workers is very small. My own bitch that is half Beardie carries the same line although from an arm of the family that was used extensively on the outer hebs. Tom with one or two others, namely Peter Wood and Brian Plummer did much to retain and strengthen the the working Beardie gene pool. It is one of these dogs bred by Plummer the i

Why lurchers dont get judged correctly?
Magpie replied to grewgirl's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Chalky and Inan are correct in what they say however, I have found from my own experience that a number of judges I have shown my Beardie bitch under have been very interested until they look in her ears. The words "oh ancock bred" have slipped from the lips of more than the occasional judge. Now I couldn't give a hoot one way or another whether my dog gets a pretty little red rosette or not, I know she does her job, a job of work! one she does very very well at thank you very much but, and here is the crux. If you are deemed experienced and expert enough to know what a good dog looks and feel -
Why lurchers dont get judged correctly?
Magpie replied to grewgirl's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Why don't you put a pic up so we can see for ourselves what it looks like. -
Obviously you've never run your dogs at a competitive coursing meet then Miss M.
-
As everyone else has said, it's both for me, whether it's a fast furious run or a long drawn out war of attrition. Seeing a good coursing dog in full flight is one of the great pleasures on earth. There is no greater test for a dog than a strong winter so to own one that is capable of taking them on a regular basis makes your heart burst with pride. It has only ever been a sporting pursuit for me, I've never been interested in killing all or as many Hares in a given area that I can, that would be counter productive. I personally hold the Hare in such high regard that I could never look at

It took my bitch a little while to develop her technique. She's now pretty consistent with her across the shoulder style grip. After being kicked a few times shes found it to be the best method. She's very soft mouthed so everything is live back to hand. I guess if the rabbit is dead it doesnt matter how the dog carries it. Interestingly though, she retrieved a shot hare last week and she chose a throat hold. I'm guessing your mates dog had taken a few kicks as a pup and found that by killing them and holding them by rear end would prevent it from happening again. Or has it always been har

Spot on Reload. For me, your dog has to mark before the nets go down. I hate waisting time netting up for nothing. Surely thats one of the main reasons we take lurchers ferreting with us. It's not only to catch those rabbits that slip the nets or bolt from missed holes. Aura's mark for inhabited burys is different to the mark she gives for those rabbits she finds above ground. She lowers her front end in readiness to accelarate, her body stiffens and her eyes widen as she stares intently at the spot where the bunnie is hiding, as ilastaited in the pics below.
-
The marking technique differs from dog to dog. I've had whippet types that would pace about a bury letting out a low whimper to a lurcher to lucher bitch that would attempt to dig them out (not the ideal situation) when she found them at home. The two Beardie crosses I've had differed greatly in their marking technique. Shannon my old bitch would fix the entrance with an intense stare, her body going completely ridged until I acknowledged her mark. Where as Aura will tiptoe over a warren carefully pocking her muzzle into the inhabited holes. The key is to put the time in, let your dog

Magpie replied to darrren's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
That's great pal. It's really infectious stuff. The more you do the better you and your ferrets will get and you never know you might want to get yourself a lurcher in the future to accompany you. All the best pal and happy hunting. -

Jolly good. We all look forward to your informative and positive opinions on the subject in the future. However I'm sure I read somewhere back on another post of the same nature that you usually stay out of such threads as you cannot stand the sycophantic b***s**t that gets spouted about Hancock. Shame you don't take your own advice. All the best my dear.
-
Alright love, everyone knows how you feel about the Hancock's lurchers so why don't you just stay out of the posts about them. No ones forcing it on you. The guy was asking an honest question about one of Hancock's stud dogs not asking for poison to be dripped in his ear. It doesn't matter how good a line the dog comes from or how old the working line is, if it's in Hancock's kennel it must be shit, yeah right. Wait for it , wait for it..................................
-
Shes a real looker Keeps thats for sure. Shes very similar to my old bitch. The bitch on the right is related to your boy Indie.
-
It's simple really. Brains, attention span, obedience, good nose and acceleration. A good weather proof coat helps, nothing worse than seeing a thin coated sighthoundy dog shivering.
-
Evenin all, I'm looking to buy a mark 1 ferret finder, I'm not bothered if it has collars with it but, it must be in good working order. Now, I flatly refuse to pay the ridiculous prises I've seen on EBay. I will pay up to £50 for receiver in good condition so if you have one you no longer require please drop me a PM. Cheers and a happy new year to all.
-
I find it truly amazing that people still think this way, it's 2007 for fecks sake, CATCH UP! What do they think the bitch does? store up the seamen somewhere inside her and I suppose the world is flat too isn't it. Here are some other gems of bull fesses....... White lurchers are useless for lamping as the rabbits see them coming (already mentioned in another thread). White lurchers are physically inferior to other coloured dogs. I believe this also applies to black and tan Staffs. Always let your pup eat the first rabbit it catches it will make it a better worker. Never trust a
