  1. There's a lady on another site (total lurcher) that breeds Bedlington/Whippets to Italian Greyhounds. Most of these little dogs stand around 15' to 16' and are smooth coated. She swares by them as bushing/hedgerow dogs but they look a little frail to me and to be honest I don't really see the point. Nice enough lass though, very knowledgeable when it comes to the ol' running dogs and boy can she talk.
  2. Put the time in mate and you never know.
  3. Like the look of that rough coated dog Clipper, hows it bred?
  4. I'd say 9.5lb maybe 10lb Thats not the fat lady in that avatar is it CC?
  5. I'm with Phil on this one. I'd much rather see a lurcher use all it's senses in order to catch it's quarry. There's just something special about watching a dog wheel round on a hot line or rustle in the hedge bottem, it's ears up tail waggin'. That quick burst of speed and a clean take really does flick my switch. I do lamp however and enjoy it immensely. It's all action and it certainly appeals to the rebel in me.
  6. A friend of mine brought a dog off him as his first lurcher. It looked more like a malnourished GSD, Huskey cross than a lurcher. I honestly cannot think of anything posative to say about it. Bumped into the chap at a show once and he telling me how he was looking to put ridgeback into his line
  7. Very nice looking dogs fella. Can I ask how the fawn dogs bred?
  8. I'm looking to buy two polecat jill kits. If you live in cambridgeshire and you have two polecat jill kits for sale PLEASE give me a pm.
  9. I think it's very important you take your time to have a good look round. Visit a few shows if you can and talk to people. You will meet some very strange folk but you'll soon realize the genuine dogmen from the bulls*****rs. If you see something you like the look of, get talking to the fella. Ask how it's bred, who bred it, how it has performed in the field. Be prepared for some amazing bulls***t but, as I said you'll figure it out. Don't rush into anything as you'll be stuck with what you've got for long time. It took me a while to sort out what suited me best and I think if most folk where
  10. Did you fall out of bed and bang your head this mornin' fella? sad mackem b*****d! You'll do well to stay up. The smoggies have had it too. Oh well at least you'll get to see the big teams at your place this year. One things for sure, it's going to be a very exciting season. I think the manyoo will win it again unfortunately. Second place is a little harder to predict, though I still believe it's between Chelski and Liverpool. Spurts may edge fourth if they can sort the defence out but I'd rather see Arsenal take it. Big Sam should see us right for a place in Europe at the very least and si

    other forums?

I've been on a few sites now, some more friendly than others but, I found THL to be very good. there will always be issues that cause arguments such as Hancock lurchers and the like but, in the main there's always good advice from experienced dog folk and interesting threads to read. I don't find it as cliquey as some other forums some of which can be very unfriendly if you dare to own the wrong lurcher cross. A bit childish if you ask me. All in all I enjoy this site the most so I rarely go else where now. Well done guys
  12. As long as it isn't a great hulking monster I don't think size really matters. Intelligence and experience is fare more valuable than out and out pace in a rabbit dog . One of the best rabbit dogs I had was a shade under 26' tts. She developed great skill at snatching up rabbits flushed by my terrier. She learned how to position herself in the right place to make a goalkeeper style snatch rather than using her pace. Which she had aplenty I might add. Understanding is key, working as a team over time and gaining experience will catch you more rabbits than simply running a dog with a bit of pac
  13. I use a blue eye 110,000 candle power lamp made by opticrom. I've had it years and find it ideal. Quite frankly I don't see the need for anything more powerful than that but, I suppose it depends on what your after and where you lamp. If your only running rabbits most of the slips will be under 100 yards so IMO I don't see the need for anything bigger.
  14. My dogs will run what they like through the summer on thier daily walks but, I'd never put a ferret to ground as I just don't like digging on to nests of rabbit kits.
  15. Hi all, I'm still looking for a couple of Polecat ferret kits. I'd like two Jills preferably really dark ones. If you have what i'm looking for and you live in the cambridge area please give me a PM. Tar very much.
  16. Whole carcass mainly with a little dry if the Pups don't catch and I always make use of road kill as long as it isn't to far gone.
  17. I'm with JD. Bull/Grey x Collie/Grey.
  18. Thats not a bad looking dog Tomo. Shame she didn't get to see any work.
  19. Not wanting to change the subject but, just going off on a little tangent. Wasn't Don's lady the offsping of that dog?
  20. I've had a seventeen bolt from one earth a few years back. It was quite a large earth dug into a disused railway enbankment. It was hectic to say the least. We enterd a ferret at each end and all hell broke loose. Most were netted, a couple were taken by the lurchers that had followed behind the ones that had hit the nets and one got away scot free. I think the total bag for that day was around fortynine, something like that anyway, I don't really remember. Last year while ferreting around the lakes I dug to a ferret and extracted fourteen rabbits from a stop end. Trenching along with the aid
  21. I got talking to a guy at the Holkham country fair yesterday about Springer spaniel x Greyhounds. I had to admit that although I have no intention of owning a lurcher of this breeding I would be interested to see how such a cross would turn out as I've never come across one before. In theory the Springer cross would seem to have all the attributes required of an all-round pot filler so heres the question, do you own or have you owned a Springer x. Maybe you know someone who does, if so how does/did it perform? What did it look like? and do you have any photos? Like I said I have no intention
  22. It's a looker mate for sure but, isn't it Beardie/Border x Greyhound?
  23. I'm sure it's a willow warbler mate. Try the yahoo video search.
