  1. Thought I'd post - I gave my older brother (who makes orthotics) the brief for making a wrist-braced slingshot, capable of using heavy bands/ ammo. I wanted the force of the draw to be absorbed by the slingshot, including the recoil - no 'flipping' at the end of the shot to compensate. After about 2 years and several re-workings/ tweakings this is what he came up with. Preliminary test-shots have been good so far... I don't expect it to be everyone's cup of tea though!
  2. I found another interesting video about attaching tubes to a pouch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5W_XP8LaWQ4 The second method is of interest as I have found that tubes, being heavier that flat-bands, can (after time) distort the pouch leading to inaccuracy. So perhaps using the string to connect to the pouch instead will prevent this? Some experimenting is required! Update: The second method of attaching the pouch works very well; will be using this in future.
  3. I have an old Hunter Ergo II spare and enough TBG for a band set - cost will be postage...(approx £1). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjtOQgKMnkA It's designed to be used with the right hand.. I had it ear marked to give to someone else on here, but have not heard any more..
  4. We used to fish the inlets of estuaries, mud-flats and harbours, low tide up using plain old rag worm. The 1st time I went I caught a 3ib bass in 2ft of water no more than 30ft out. Great fun on a light spinning rod - and good eating! The only draw back was having to wear waders and the smelly mud! It got a bit tedious in the end, so stopped doing it.
  5. I hadn't heard of crossbow serving string before - have been using waxed thread..but agree the constrictor knot does hold well!
  6. Was having a look online and found this method for attaching tubes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zG8SXU5m-KQ Looks good for lighter tube sets but not sure if it would work on heavier band sets...
  7. Nicely made - joining antler to the plum wood must have been fun!
  8. Ah yes Bill Hayes is very good; like him very much. There's a German guy who does similar stuff - can't think of his name..Will look him up.. Update: Here he is - if you've not seen it before: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QcEtVTYdm4
  9. This guy seems to do quite well using a wrist-brace: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dj3c2ul7yfQ I've used a OTT Hunter slingshot for a while with (tbg) flat-bands and made several natural fork sets. I found myself spending more time making and tweaking, rather than shooting, and that the ones I made didn't lead to better shooting. I think people get into the craft aspect, enjoying the making, which is fine. I currently use 2 slingshots - the BW and one I had made for use with heavy tubes.
  10. Nowt wrong with a BW..I've had mine since 1985 ! Bought for £5 and used for a while - put away and forgotten about and then dug out a few years ago. I have an old Hunter catapult spare that I don't use, it's ply and needs a sand: https://huntercatapults.files.wordpress.com/2011/07/untitled.png Mine is not painted but is a similar style and is shaped for right hand use...doesn't have bands though..happy to pass it on to a good home.
  11. That's ok - I'm thinking of buying some of their harpoon elastic for my Barnett.. They do sell some nice stuff.
  12. Update: It looks like they may be trading still as there is a new website and contact details; it looks like they may have switched to online trading, rather than having a shop. New website here: http://www.bellsofhytheonline.com/Default.aspx
  13. Greetings! A friend of mine has a Harris Hawk and ferrets, I've been out a few times with him in the past couple of years...good fun but hectic with it!
  14. That will be a wholesaler then! I've looked at that but am not sure having 30 - 50m of tube stored at home would go down well!
  15. That set up looks pretty impressive and well made. I'm not convinced that tubes are any faster than Theraband, but perhaps this set up is. I tend not to worry too much about that, as long as I can target shoot accurately and have a small game hunting capability- so somewhere between 200 - 300fps is fine with me! I find tubes quieter to use and easier to set up than flat-bands; they also seem to last longer.
  16. A Tope (20lbish) would be nice, from the shore preferably. I did go out in a boat especially for purpose of Tope and Smooth-hounds but ended up with Dogfish and a 10lb Thornback Ray instead, which was nice but not quite what I was after!
  17. I might try that method for attaching the pouch on one of mine...Maybe re-visit looped dub dub..
  18. Greetings; Carmarthenshire is nice area - managed to walk the Carmarthen Fan (or should that be Bannau Sir Gaer?) a couple of years back...during the tale end of a storm....thoroughly recommended!
  19. Thanks - The pouch attachment interests me; do you get any inaccuracy with the shots due to the free nature of attachment?
  20. Are those tubes loaded onto the lower frame?
  21. Hi, I'd suggest contacting them; they may have resumed trading...I just couldn't get a response by phone or email, so gave up. They do have some nice stuff on their site.
  22. Hi, I think Bells of Hythe are no longer trading - or that's the impression that a lot of people have. I tried contacting them by phone and email months ago and got no response. There's a thread about them here: http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/341209-bells-of-hythe/
  23. Greetings from Hampshire!
  24. Got one from poundland once but it was shit!
