  1. Thanks guys, opted for superdomes. Will see how they go!
  2. Thanks, I've played with air rifles for years but never seriously. I took it to Coleys yesterday and zeroed it in using domed pellets and was impressed at the accuracy at 40 yards or so. I didn't go for anything too pricey as the plan is to give my 13 year old some experience and use it on small quarry until I get my FAC.
  3. Makes sense. This one is a Hammerli Blackforce 800.
  4. Just wondering what pellets people are using for hunting? I have recently bought a .22 air rifle for times when I can't use my shotty and am after a bit of help regarding what people consider the best pellet for knocking down bunnies, rats, woodies etc?
  5. I am joining the CPSA as I do a lot of clay shooting and am just getting into registered comps and will have their insurance so joining BASC will just duplicate what I have at extra cost (unless the CPSA don't offer advice on matters like these).
  6. Oh my God. Really? That is utterly disgusting. My SGC was easy but due to current serving family members and my own security clearance in the past due to CP work etc. My mate applied for his SGC in Glos and it took 9 months longer than mine! I don't see what the problem is with this force in fairness but I will ring my FEO tomorrow afternoon and see if I can't get further info. Talk about putting you off altogether!
  7. Brilliant - really appreciate the help and advice. I'll try and call tomorrow.
  8. So any force can tell me about any land in the UK?
  9. Further digging done and it appears that they will let anyone with an open certificate know whatever they want relating to land but if you don't have a ticket then you aren't party to anything! They have said that if the land is checked and if it turns out that it isn't approved for the calibre I want that I can then request a refund and withdraw my application. All very odd.
  10. Will BASC help even though I'm not a member?
  11. It's pretty shocking to be honest. Their next reply reads Dear Sir, Please submit your application to us here, once your application is being processed/granted. The land will be checked for the calibre of weapon and quarry you are requesting.
  12. And they went on to say I do not believe this information is held in the public domain. As it could be misused
  13. WTF? Just had this reply to my email. RE: Land query Dear Mr xxx We cannot give out details of land clearance until we have received an application and permission to shoot over a particular piece of land. Sorry we cannot help at this time.
  14. She was actually the firearms department manager! Told me she will pass it on to a staff member tomorrow.
  15. Sadly they don't seem very helpful at all. Spoke to them only to be told that I should apply and ask the question then. I said I wasn't willing to spend time and money only to be granted FAC air rifle so was told to email my query. Last time I emailed them was 6 months ago when I added another shotgun to my licence and asked them to confirm they had it on record and they never even replied then so I'm not holding out too much hope!
  16. See, that would drive me around the bend! Go through the whole process only to be told that? I am going to call them this morning and ask about the two permissions I have to see what they may have been cleared for and make my decision based on that.
  17. Really appreciate the answers. I presume (but will check) that the land is already passed as a friend has been shooting it for three years with his .22. I think it's pr a good idea to call them and check.
  18. Fair comment guys. The land is about 50 acres and I also have a 12 acre woodland. It's maily rabbit, fox and crows etc. I was thinking of applying for a .22LR and a .177HMR. I'm unlikely to go after any deer in fairness.
  19. Had some good scores with power reds. Nice fast shells. Hull super fast are also great and about £170/1000. I don't rate Hull comp x at all, very dull sounding discharge.
  20. I already have a Shotgun certificate and now want to apply for an FAC. Does anyone have any hints or tips on what to include on the form? Also, it asks me about quantity of ammo required. What would be a sensible answer for a once a week job controlling rabbits and fox?
  21. Hi everyone, good looking community here. I'm a shotgunner based in Gloucestershire. Mainly shoot clays but have also started getting into vermin control with air rifles. I'm now applying for my FAC to take things further. Apologies in advance for any noobie questions I may ask.
