  1. Crazy. It's like the old Matchbox toys that people keep in the box that turn up on the Antiques Roadshow or Flog It. Virtually anything old seems to go for silly money.
  2. After a lot of humming and hawing, have just ordered a Nikon EFR 3-9x40. Was a toss up between that and the Mamba Light (well reviewed, but was not sure how I'd get on with the busy reticule). Thanks for everyone's comments and advice on this topic - has been very helpful.
  3. If I damaged something belonging to someone else - friend or not - I'd be too ashamed to give it back and would have to replace it just in order to be able to sleep at night.
  4. Sportsman Gun Centre is selling several Gold Crown Airking models at discount at the moment. Are they the ones you mean, Simon (for example - http://www.sportsmanguncentre.co.uk/product/96550ad7ac75b76689944055/Nikko+Stirling+Gold+Crown+Airking+4x32+Illuminated+AO+Mildot/)? They look tempting at those prices.
  5. Hi All. Could I ask your advice? Am looking to improve my scope. Have a basic Nikko Stirling - it does the job, but feel like treating myself. What would you suggest (for a springer)?. MTC Mamba looks nice and gets good reviews (although the reticle looks a bit like a Christmas tree). Would appreciate your suggestions. I don't need more than 12x mag. Many thanks.
  6. Thanks guys. Rez is right - it's a .177 (which was what I wanted - was always a .177 fan). More fun in the garden this morning, setting up the scope. Got it spot on in 7 pellets.
  7. Finally took the plunge today, having returned to airgunning after 30+ years away - used to shoot through my teens and up until my mid twenties, but drifted away from it as job, family, etc took over my time. Turned 60 last year and found my old Meteor in the loft whilst having a clear out and it reminded me of some good times, so decided to give it a go again. The old beast, much as I love it and would never part with it, is well past its prime, so did some research (must thank Si and Davy for their excellent YouTube videos, as well as all the experienced hands on here for great advice and
  8. Hi All. Would appreciate any suggestions for clubs in or within reasonably easy reach of North London. Have found websites for two - Hendon (indoor) and Lea Valley. Any others worth checking out? Many thanks.
  9. Hi All. Just signed up. At the age of 61, am rediscovering air-gunning. I used to belong a local club in my late teens/early 20s but drifted away from it and my other outdoor hobby (angling) when other things - family, etc - began to take up more of my time and eventually sold my old Meteor. Have been fishing again for a few years now and recently, some friends of my mum's in Norfolk, who own a nursery and smallholding, invited me to join them on a rat and pigeon control session. Really enjoyed it and rekindled some of the old enthusiasm - even found I could still shoot, although my eyesight i
