  1. This is crucial. If not, it wasn't wise of him to be out in public with it. At my club, we require that guns should be in a slip or case at all times unless they are in use. It makes sense. Our range is on a large shared sports venue - with rugby, hockey and football fields and an athletics track - and there are sometimes hundreds of people milling around. The average member of the public doesn't know the difference between an air rifle and any other firearm. It's not sensible to risk frightening them.
  2. I haven't any pic's of my particular LGV, but it's the master model (same as the comp/ultra/pro, but with a lighter, slimmer wood stock and no adjustable cheek piece). It's the one in this vid' - Walther LGV Master Air Rifle Review UK #1 - Short Term Review - YouTube. Being ancient and a bit of a weed, I like the fact that it's lighter in weight. A little heavier than my HW95, but not massively so.
  3. Thanks for the advice, Rez. I don't want to push the power too high (I find .177 too snappy when it gets close to 12 ft lb). I was just wondering whether it would be better with a little more. It certainly shoots nicely and is accurate (out to about 50 yards at my club range on a still day). My HW95 does a shade over 11 and is my favourite rifle. If you think it best to keep the LGV as is, I'm happy to do that.
  4. My LGV is a low on power. A clean and lube has helped, but it's only doing around 10ft lbs. I've added pre-load washers (to the extent that I cannot add any more or it will not cock, which is not ideal), but it's still low. I've heard that it's worth fitting a 25mm HW piston seal. Is it a drop in - a push fit on the piston in the same way as it would on a Weihrauch - or is modification needed? Which HW seal - HW 30, 77, etc - should I get if it's worth trying? Many thanks for any advice, folks.
  5. My HW95 in .177 is my go to rifle. With a decent guide and top hat set, cleaned/polished internals, it does around 11.3 ft lb with JSB heavies. Accurate out to 50 yards, light enough to carry and handle easily and plenty of hitting power. I much prefer it to my Pro Sport and LGV for everyday use. The HW99 is a great little gun, too (especially when tweaked/tuned) and even easier to handle.
  6. Lots of helpful suggestions here. Jonjon makes a particularly good point when he talks about Weihrauch, Air Arms and established makes being serviceable/repairable, with parts available easily. If you are looking for a gun to use as a tool, it is likely to work hard for its living, so that will be important. You don't want to have to replace it because spares can't be had if it develops a fault. It's worth seeking the advice of your local gun shop. Many have used guns and the advantage of buying from them is that backup/after-sales is to hand. Sites such as Gunstar and Gun Trader are also wort
  7. I enjoyed Gary Wain's article about bell target shooting in April's AW and would really like to try it. I've been looking on the 'net to see if it happens anywhere within reasonably easy reach of The Smoke. No joy so far. It appears to be very much Midlands-based, so would be looking at around a 100 mile drive. If anyone knows of anything a bit further south, would appreciate suggestions. Thanks All.
  8. Me too. Very happy with mine.
  9. Have to agree with Simon that the PS is a beautiful rifle. Mine was extremely accurate (more so than me) and a pleasure to own, especially as it had the walnut stock. However, I found it never felt right in the hand, if that makes any sense. The reach to the trigger always felt too short and I didn't like the narrow, polished blade (I could have bought a Rowan or similar, but that wouldn't have solved the reach issue). I tried to get on with it, but sold it in the end and bought another HW95 (already had a .22 and got a .177 to go with it). The 95 stock just suits my hand and I find the broad,
  10. Thank you and Thumbs up, no more to give So So Sorry Dan Dare mate did not read all the post. No words in this world will or can ever do. All the very best No apology needed, mate. All the best to you, too.
  11. Happy birthday for next Tuesday, Renos and great to hear you and the wife have been together for so long. Got together with my missus in 1982 and lost her to breast cancer in 2013. She was lovely and completely mad (she must have been for putting up with me).
  12. Good advice. Spring's been a long time coming, but seems it's really here at last. That old sun always lifts the spirits. I live in the Smoke, too (Peoples' Republic of Islington) and know what you mean about worrying that the neighbours might have a fit if they see you with something in a gun-shaped case. Fortunately, I play the bass, so when I take my guns out, I use a couple of gig bags. HW95 is almost exactly the same length as a Fender Precision and fits in a treat. I visited my daughter in Manchester recently and went by train (cheaper than petrol with the senior railcard and much quicke
