  1. A lot of forces got their dogs from dealers and they got their stock from all sorts of places. If they came across a big young dog that showed possessiveness or play drive and confidence then it would be offered to the services. Over the years we tried Rotties and all sorts of GSD crosses and latterly Mallies. Other forces would have done the same. We needed around 12 GP dogs a year to maintain the numbers. If they were short of dogs for a course it could mean a handler being off the streets for several months so sometimes they took on dogs that they would normally have refused. In my ow
  2. Don't recall anyone with a doberman. There was a GSD cross by the name of Steeler that had either rotty or doberman in it around that time. There were certainly no dobies in there by 98.
  3. Doesn't bother me in the slightest, tail or no tail. But I would have to get it at a young age to be able to get it to work away from the handler like a GSD does.
  4. There seems to be a fixation on certain breeds offering a magic solution for whatever purpose. In reality there is little difference between them and it comes down to the ability of the owner or handler to get the dog to do what you want it to do. The right person would not have to look past a GSD or Rottie to get a good companion dog that would protect property or family. No need for all these macho breeds imo.
  5. He must have spent half the day looking up big cats on wiki. Amazing how much education you can obtain by copy / paste.

Tw@t! I wondered who kept nicking them.
  7. No, you mean cunningstunts. That is was his bolt hole ?
  8. It certainly leapt, but the warden still claims it was a collision, not an attack. There are politics involved as you would expect. For a start nobody wants to alarm the public. Then there is the re-establishment programs and all sorts of other stuff. The press variously recorded it as being a tiger and a cheetah, both of which are being re-located. And the locations given for the incident are also linked to that. He'll need a new pair of underpants, that's for sure.
  9. We bought some from Hungary on a sale or return basis. That is how it was done and probably still is for all search dogs and GP dogs whether from a dealer, breeder, public or other force. So if a dog doesn't look like it will pass a course it goes back. Most of the Hungarian contingent went back. To be honest, if the KC hadn't ruined the working GSD lines we and other services wouldn't have had to resort to inferior breeds. In 2007 I brought 8 GSD's and 3 spaniels in from donations and rescue centres at a total cost of £90. All made it into service. We also brought 3 Hungarian dogs in a
  10. As are many of the security dogs classed as GSDs.

I heard that they are kidnapping Vietnamese women and selling them to Chinese males. Also, the single male children tended to be spoilt by their parents and less willing to do national service. Then there will be a care problem as the population ages.

Perhaps the Chinese might alter their birth control policy though. It has caused problems already and is storing oother more serious problems for later years.

I agree with you. Forcing people to accept foreign cultures without being able to protect or even enjoy their own culture has always ended with bloodshed. If the government cannot or will not take sufficient action to pacify the public's concerns then we will see a Fascist party take enough votes to create a revolution and / or fascist violence by groups like the NF taking unilateral action. It is one of history's recurring themes.
  14. In my post above. About 2 hours ago. Then there are dozens of cropped versions making out it is phone footage.
  15. Single maggot, 20 hook, bite a cast.
  16. It is from a traffic camera. If it was a phone image, personal witness type of thing as it is intended to look like it would not be as still. As I said at the start it looks like it has been manipulated and now we know that it was.
  17. I used to travel from Barnsley to Collingham and Boston Spa on a Honda SS50 moped governed to 30mph top speed. Over 30 miles each way with a fishing basket, holdall, waders, big coat and enough food and drink for the day ? The Riverline was very useful to avoid wasted journeys. I never did any good in flood water in those days. Talking of trout; way back in the 70's I was standing in the Wharfe near a small stream just downstream of the Spa Baths. A huge brown trout swam past me, within a couple of feet, and went up the stream. I turned to watch it and saw the trout go under a small water
  18. Its also an image thing. Big dog, little pr1ck sort of thing.
  19. If you look at the original footage from the roadside traffic camera and compare it to the footage mackem put up anyone should be able to see that the footage mackem posted is a second generation recording. Probably made using a mobile phone recording a tv or computer. There are multiple similar second generation recordings posted on youtube and similar hosting services. Some of them have been replicated by news outlets. Possibly duped into thinking they had an exclusive. Many of the stories give differdnt locations for the incident. Or you can believe that someone with a mobile phone ju
  20. Great capture and well worth your taking a chance on the day. Did you know about the Riverline recorded telephone information message? The information was on a recorded loop. You dialled the number then waited until it got round to the place you intended fishing. I was using that in the 1990s, possibly in the late 1970s, but can't be sure.
  21. The late Queen insisted on having labs rather than GSDs as security dogs around the palace. Also, we had more handlers hospitalised by their labs than their GSDs. Usually it involved taking food off them ?
  22. The warden who is responsible for that area said that he didn't think it was an attack in the pre meditated aggressive manner. It was suggested that the leopard was bolting across the road and collided with the cyclist. I'm sure greb will give us his definitive opnion.
  23. Seems like it was a genuine incident, but happened elewhere to where reported. There are politics regards re-introduction of predators in some areas and people are using this incident to lobby against policy elsewhere. The footage is about 4 months old and taken by a government installed roadside camera.
  24. Yes, but look at all those You've Been Framed videos. A lot of them have got to be set up and this looks like one too.
  25. I haven't read any story behind it, but why would someone be filming there?
