Wheres Matt ? (These Days) Lol

Our local Gamme Vert does genuine Talpex at €9.95. That is £7.24 at today's exchange rate and compared to £9.49 at Ratbait. I've bought a dozen just in case I ever get to learn how to set them When you get around to using the Putanges my tip is to secure the trigger to the trap using some thin twine. I use 80lb fishing braid because I've got loads lying around, but builder's twine is fine. Fasten the trigger in the middle of the side opposite the gap then set the trap so the trigger is about 20 - 25mm from the jaws, gap side between the jaws. Taking the other end of the twine, loosely tie -

If you are collecting cash on receipt is best, but if you want them posting I'll let you have my PayPal address. I won't be over until November so there is plenty of time to sort it. -

Cheers, I'll put them aside once I've raided the shop several times. -

Not seen any of those and I won't be rushing to order any either. -

We're just back from the Alsace region. Nice, but not as good as Yorkshire I drove the camper up to the top of one of the mountain passes, 1200 metres uphill, third gear all the way, and when we stopped at the top the first thing I found was a bloody molehill -
Prototype Duffus Traps ?
Nicepix replied to earth-thrower's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I've got some stainless 'Ultimate' Flatpacks from about three years back and they haven't a mark on them and the springs are stronger now than the more recent Flatpack traps I bought. The galvanised steel Flatpacks showed signs of corrosion almost immediately. The first lot of 'Ultimate' Flatpacks I bought are made out of thicker steel, bodies and wires, and the steel is more resistant to being bent. They are also 65mm wide whereas the current ones are 74mm wide. I have had a similar experience regards customer service. I had to contact them three times before they responded to confirm -
I agree that in order to improve the catch rate you need to use them more often and learn from the experiences. Most of the time the soil isn't right for Talpex. Too many stones or too claggy. I'd like to see the "Piece of Piss" merchant set a Talpex in the builder's rubble type of soil found out here in the wine growing regions. Or the heavy clay type soil of my local area. So they only get used a small part of the time in gardens and weather conditions that suit. I never use them exclusively, always back them up with one or both of the other type of trap I use. It frustrates me to Hell that
-
So am I. But I've not been able to achieve anything over 50% with them. Good job I'm a Putange God and Duffus Wizard or I'd be skint

I never get too excited when the Talpex handles are apart. Usually its empty

I'll keep 25 on one side and let you know when and where they will be once plans are finalised. If anyone else wants any please let me know by PM and I'll try and accommodate you. I need plenty of notice as I can only buy them at the right price in dribs and drabs locally. My Brother in Law will be able to post them out or they can be collected from Barnsley near J37 of the M1 some time in November. £3.50 a pair including trigger loops. Setting tool will be £1. Postage extra at cost if appropriate. p.s. I'll be away from tomorrow for a week or so. -

I'll be dropping some off at my Brother-in-Law's in Barnsley later in the year if that is any help? They will be no more expensive for smaller quantities and you'd be able to collect. -

Right, got it now. This is the link: http://erichunter-tools.co.uk/piege-a-taupe-putanges-s203186.html I'd be tempted to buy a few to start with and see how you go. There is a lot of crap on the market. Whenever I find a new type I buy a couple of pairs and try them out. The only ones I'd recommend of those I've tried are a brand called Lucifer. Some of the others have rusted before my eyes and become too weak to be effective after a few weeks of use. The best type I have ever found were taken off sale after I'd bought half a dozen pairs. That was almost twelve months ago and they are stil -

Don't know anything about that. I don't sell 'em I've passed a few onto some people on here at cost, but I don't really want to get into that side of things because of the postage costs and the only shop that sells a reasonable quality trap at a reasonable price only has a few in stock at any one time. Exactly the same product in other local shops of the same chain are €2 more expensive I keep buying a few pairs every time I pass as I use loads and I'm intending to drop thirty or so pairs off at my Brother-in-Law's when I come over in November so he can sell them on eBay and keep the m -

In most cases I work on the principle that I'm not only trapping the client's moles I'm often trapping the neighbour's moles too. Because of the distances I travel I reckon it is better to spend a bit longer putting in extra traps than travel back to sort out a re-infestation. But once I've cleared the site if they want me to keep it mole free I just use two trap sites with a pair of Putanges in each site and pop in to check them whenever I'm passing. That will keep a one acre garden almost molehill free all year round.

And the worst thing is finding a double sprung, soil filled Duffus as soon as you get there Especially, if your the type (like me), who prefers to only set one trap, for what you think, may be one mole ? ha ha In my garden or in friend's gardens I do just that. I'm sure that there is only one mole as I've already cleared them out, and I have so much faith in Putanges that I'll just pop in a pair and collect the body next day. But in client's gardens I can never be sure. One example produced a single mole twice, around a year apart, then thirteen next time around. Farmer next door

Doesn't matter to you agricultural mole trappers but this is for us garden jobbers. Its always nice to lift the first trap and have a result, but how many of you have done the rounds, with your client watching, inspecting trap after trap with nothing to show for it, making light of the fact and telling them that you aren't bothered because you are sure that the mole will be trapped whilst getting secretly more and more wound up as each empty trap is inspected? Stressful isn't it? You know that you will have caught because of the fresh molehills that were there when you started and the empt

Its snout looks to be a darker colour than the others in the bag.
-
Yes, but it is crap. I've still got the mole though so tomorrow I'll get it out of the bag and take a better shot.
-
I pulled a mole out of a Putange this afternoon that had black scrapers, not the usual pink or white colour. Anyone else had one of these?
-
If it is like last time he'll dump fifty quid's worth of manure on the guy's drive in retribution for losing twenty quid's worth of traps.

Sounds like too much time playing noughts and crosses to me -
Thanks. I distinctly remember asking for the European version and in any case the eBay ad said that they would be sent out to all UK buyers. These 'fun size' ones might as well be scrapped then and I'm not that bothered about having any larger ones. Putanges rule OK!
