  1. Bryan we like to try and keep a even pack which will then give you more of a chance of keeping hounds together and more of a tight unit at least that's what we aim for lol . We don't see point in having hounds strung out across country which the beagle would bring and don't be intimidated by the way a person speaks and dresses
  2. In Wales pre ban milliken scent is not always great or a fox will hear you below a hillside and and be on the move a long time before hounds get there as you know we have a lot of sheep which interferes with scent which makes the hunt slow on times but can be great to watch the line being worked and these hunts can last well over a hour or 2 . if scent and country will let hounds run fast for 45 mins then Charlie will have to do something or get pulled down but you don't always need good hounds to do that but they have to be good for the 3 hour hunt working the line out I would much rather a
  3. Read in this month's hounds magazine that Barry todhunter huntsman of the blaencathra fox hounds has started running beagles with his pack he has 4 beagles running in total they hunted Saturday and hunted a 7 mile point 2 beagles were seen 5 miles away when the quarry was brought down there was 1 beagle crag bound on Mungrisdale and the other beagle hasn't since been seen. Although this isn't true fox digger I can very well believe this is what would happen this is another reason why I believe only a fool would run beagles with fox hound or harrier neither would it happen with the hethrope on
  4. Prime example fox digger don't believe all what you read you read what Bryan wrote and went straight on defence of your favourite hound anyway I thought you were bowing out lol . Anyhow how weak are the foxes in Ireland have any of you irish lads been to Wales hunting and how would you class the fox to yours
  5. Haiddheliwr you can word things a lot better than me
  6. There is no way that Scotland could keep laws the way they are because when England and Wales tried for the same laws as Scotland who shot that down in flames yes Scotland . But I do hope they stay the same for the genuine lads in Scotland and could give us a argument then also
  7. They didn't keep the beagle pure for long fox digger I'm sure you are right fox digger beagles are better to hunt fox than foxhounds the 6 fell packs just for example must be fools not to run beagles up on the fells with their fell hounds and the successful hunts in Wales must be really stupid not to run the beagles with their hounds because the beagle will get their hounds marking for them and sort checks out even the shooting packs in Wales don't use beagles to flush to guns out of thick cover when you have followed a good pack of foxhounds or harriers a pack of beagles would be in no compar
  8. I'll stick to follow foxhounds l think and won't be trying to tell the hunt that I follow to start introducing any beagle for the reasons being they don't need beagle to help them mark and they have good enough noses to sort their checks out way before the beagle arrives only a fool would run beagles with hounds 1 reason being the beagle would be hunting on behind and when the hounds check the beagles would be pulling them back causing all sorts of problems . The pack I follow I'm sure don't leave their quarry in tight cover. What time did beagle packs start hunting years ago and what we're
  9. Fox digger I have had experience with beagle packs other wise I wouldn't pass comments obviously you have your fun using your beagle to bush for waiting luchers that's not hunting I would be interested in. Just answer me one question I've seen many good packs in different countries some have a bit of English hound introduced in the pack of what ever type of hound their hunting some introduced Welsh some fell and so on how come they never introduced beagle? When you say about your local horse packs my original post was of tidy packs of foxhounds I wouldn't go outside the front door to watch my
  10. Goliath I appreciate what your saying also what harrier is saying I understand because I haven't got tunnel vision. Goliath don't your harriers mark because I've seen many that do I don't think I've ever seen any cold mark but I'm sure they will just haven't been with them enough perhaps and what is it with foxhounds and the electric fences I've heard a few mention about this is it because they shy off them being soft the harrier doesn't
  11. Harrier I was talking of hunting foxes sorry .I think you wouldn't get a better hound to hunt hare on any country than the harrier. I would never waste my time going to watch a beagle pack hunting fox spend half the day hunting rabbits and squirrel they would be no comparison to a half tidy pack of foxhounds. I can see exactly where miliken is coming from with harriers
  12. Fd and whippet been in work all weekend keep doing the overtime lads
  13. Foxdropper get back on your machine now and drive on lol
  14. Hounds to suit your country. Hares and harriers don't mix when hounds are running around the country hunting things you don't want them to hunt their disturbing the things you want them to hunt ruining the plan of the day . But a touch of harrier in the breeding can improve the nose of a hound in my opinion.
  15. I find the lurcher running quarry fair sport which I can't see how anyone could say any difference I don't like to see more than one coursing myself has it then becomes slightly unfair but I wouldn't say it's wrong. What I have seen over the last few years is the big increase of heavy bull crosses which are never built or bred for coursing and are made only for one thing which again I don't really disagree with but I do find this practice pointless because a gun could make the job a lot easier but each to their own. what I do disagree with is the men who take these type of lurchers to shows ,g
  16. Ffs, please don't confuse foxdropper with the original FOXBOLTER
  17. Regarding woods picture I've dug in those situations myself and sometimes stones can be overhanging but solid so you leave those ones there and just take the lose ones away because the solid ones hold the sides secure.you can't tell if it's secure until you try to move it with shovel or bar. I don't think whippet you know what your talking about judging how loose rocks are by a photo. Before long with people like you well have to go on health and safety courses to dig to a terrier are you a health and safety inspector
  18. Foxes and animals are very quick learners when it comes to food amazes me how they pass a certain place sometimes the same time each day within 5 minutes
  19. Is the stop end usually in an advantage place for the fox and in a dry place within the earth to keep the fox comfortable so is it good practice to try and put earth back so stop end is accessible to the fox
  20. When will he shoot the next couple of hounds only takes 1 rabbit to take a little detour I would be a little frightened next time I hunted anywhere within 10 mile from the pricks ground if they were my hounds. 500 people sometimes wouldn't be enough to stop hounds hunting over ground with no permission all the best now for next season and when it happens again then don't be waiting for my comments because you'll know what will be coming off me again wall him out boys wall him out
  21. Glyn The dog in marshman photo would be very similar to the type of dogs you keep would it
  22. Ideation nice to here of someone with a bit of sense
  23. No issues with farmers fat man off the top of my head I know about 30 and have great relationship with them buy their all skint lol if they saw a dog chasing sheep they would shoot a dog straight end of and I agree with that full on but I don't think they would shoot a dog because he have wondered onto their land seen a farmer one day shoot by the side of a dog one day to frighten it back home know that some have followed dogs home and given warning to owners
  24. Every farmer says he don't earn any money their all poor
  25. Ideation you nearly work as many hours as me
