yeah that makes sense, I know some people have their problems with Harris's, I've heard all sorts of things, but i think they are fantastic birds! But I see your point about not teaching you anything about having a different species- I personally think its wrong to see them as a 'starter' bird, something to move on from after you get the basics (I understand why people say that and why people do it) but I just think they can offer so much and have so many variations to how they can be flown that you can fly them happily for a long time? I think if i knew I wanted another bird then I'd start w

yes from what I've seen a lot of people aren't having a great time of it this year! from my understanding a benefit of the harris is that it doesn't need as much time as some of the other birds so might not be as bad as if it were a different species? obviously fitness will suffer but in terms of manning and the actual flying from what I've read and heard you can have real problems with a gos if you don't fly her often enough which you wouldn't necessarily get with the Harris?

Ah I see, that makes sense! I dont have any working dogs, I only shoot and fish so don't have anything hunting wise which I have to do, a rod or gun can be sat in its case for a few months and it doesn't matter! haha yes its always the way though, lovely weather when you are stuck inside and then the day you want to be out doing something its tipping it down and blowing a gale!

Okay thanks, well thats good to know about the food Oh wow thats quite a while! I've been getting some flying experience with someone who has kindly agreed to take me out every now and again but thats been flying peregrines, I absolutely love seeing them fly and he thinks I could go straight into a peregrine- as its not like I'd be doing it alone, but I dont know if thats what I'd want yet, I still have a massive pull towards a harris or a gos! My dad used to fly a Harris so he will be able to help me with the training and basics too which is good

so you find that the hawk pretty much feeds itself in terms of how much it catches to how much it eats? I wish I didnt have to wait so long, already been doing a lot of reading and research for about 2 years, dont think theres much more I can read haha, just gotta wait until I finish Uni and happy days (only another year and a half but im sure it will be worth the wait )

Okay thanks pointer, seems like theres little point me trying to save anything then- I may as well just eat it all myself

Well I certainly didn't plan to go out shooting new years day, I woke up with a terrible headache but after some water and painkillers decided to have a quick look out the window. In the walnut tree closest to my house was a woodpigeon- Great I thought! grabbed the gun and tried to line up on him but couldn't get a headshot, moved to the next window along and still no luck, but then I noticed another pigeon a bit higher in the tree, this one with a clear shot! down he went. Looking around the garden I noticed a squirrel in the Oak tree down the bottom, from the window it would be something li

I've had that happen to some pigeon breasts I left in the freezer as I forgot they were there and didn't notice them but does the same apply if you were to put something in that was not fully treated, say I gutted a rabbit but left the fur on do you think that would increase the time it could stay in for?

okay so not much point starting too early! thanks! oh thats a good point, will look into those

Hi guys, just wondering how long people leave food in the freezer for as a maximum? It going to be a fair while before I can get a bird, but I do a fair bit of shooting with an air rifle and was wondering if its worth chucking anything in a deep freeze? obviously wouldnt feed anything thats got a pellet in, 95% of the time its headshots so the area with a pellet in can easily be removed, does anyone else do something similar or is it not really a done thing? atb Muttley

I had the same a few weeks ago, someone hit me just above the eye with a bottle while i was walking home for no reason! some utter scum around. Hope Viz makes a speedy recovery and they catch whoever did it!

I had the same thing with a feral about 6 or 7 years ago- perched up in a walnut tree in my field, it was my first time shooting- 'hunting'- with my air rifle and wasn't bothered at all that it was a feral- never had one in that position since though!

haha okay, I can't imagine anyone criticising anything I put up... especially not the stock or stunning thumb hole on my HW

Since my last trip out managed to use the gun a few more times: Firstly headed back to the rabbit permission for a few early hours, but the main purpose was to set up some pallets and camo netting to use as a 'hide' in the future as it is very difficult to get into range otherwise, so wasnt too disappointed not to get anything. Secondly was a squirrel from a window in the house, wasn't exactly an outting, but was nice all the same! Finally today we headed down to the same permission, probably the last trip there before new year. A rabbit popped out at about 45/50 yards not long aft

Haha thanks for the positive comments and gun lovin (from most of you )! So I went out today for some rabbits, looked positive to begin with few rabbits sat out- had a 50yard shot and missed! Great start!! It's only a small field so picked my spot and sat in waiting for some bunnies to reappear. Few hours later and starting to get disheartened when one poked his head out at about 30 yards and dropped him nicely! About 40minutes later a magpie landed about 10yards further than him. I misjudged the distance a bit and my headshot turned into a body shot but the result was the same! Woul

Haha what fine choice in tables we have!
-
Haha don't worry whether I get any bunnies or not I will have a good day out and be honest about it

Thanks! If it keeps this up I will be very happy! It will keep this up no doubt about it and stealthy is right, good choice, nice to see some hunting pics as well... Haha thanks! Hopefully will get some more pictures up tomorrow of plenty of rabbits!
