  1. I know nothing of air guns but I found with a limited budget it is better to buy good second hand over new budget items of anything, this way you starting with a good but used gun with better trade in value if or when you upgrade, a shiny bag of shite is not what people take back in trades but is the good old faithful guns. Also reading this post finally realised what ATB means
  2. If you like to be in the beating line get a Spaniel if picking up suits get a Lab, though I seen plenty of Springers picking up you very rarely see a Lab working like a Spaniel will, seen plenty running about looking flashy though.
  3. Just stumbled across this, bloody hell some serious talent here, honestly that wood wook in itself would fetch a fortune, hats off to you.
  4. Ask the keeper what is required. Most likely be needing insurance at least, plus if you needing the keeper to lend you a gun get in there first before others do same and you're left with that beaten up .410 he uses for rats around the feeders
  5. Well is well priced for full pedigree if you can train them, know people spend over 1k on a similar aged Dog with only sitting, lead broken, walking to heal and maybe some very basic dummy work. Without seeing them I really think is doable unless they look out of control and completely ignore you, but I would think about only taking one of them, often seen the case litter mates kept from puppy up to adult work for each other and not you. Is it possable for you to go spend some time with them singly ? often just them willing to sit calmly with you and hold your gaze will be a good gu
  6. Really depends on the dog and the trainer I think but it isn't too late at all if the basics, sitting, stopping and walking to heal can be sorted out fairly sharpish, imo you only really 3 months late if those can be sorted. Then some dummy work and in the spring and summer get plenty of work in making sure it under control, Cockers seem more than anything need keeping on top of though and if can be kept steady then you should be ok. *Edit to add * : Of course it also depends on wether this puppy is your's already, or how much it would cost you to buy as to wether you take on training.
  7. Could i show my ignorance and ask a question as a non rifle guy, when you say open a licence what does that mean. i'm guessing it something to do with the land you shoot on being cleared as safe ?
  8. As said above needs a bigger photo to show more detail. First thought came through my head is why would anyone go to the effort to carry their kill's to one spot to dump, they would of left them where they fell and probably taken the tails off maybe. There is nothing much you can do with a fox other than dump it but you put it somewhere a bit out of sight.
  9. I'm no expert but that list looks about right from memory. Used to use a 20 bore until i outgrown it, ofc upgraded to a 12 but always thought I shot just as good birds with a 20 than a 12, maybe not such high duck but peasants and snipe did just as good a job on.
  10. I no clue what he said as I couldn't be doing with all the moral outrage and lost interest when I stumbled upon a link,of a pig ice skating. But in my humble opinion I would just as sooner someone said i was a Negro than call me "of colour " which to me just screams racist and harks back to the USA of the early to mid twentieth century but the P.C brigade just love to say that atm.
  11. Yep as mentioned you won't find many second hand ones around yet but look about at the other models plus Miroku's is you like the Brownings which I love myself.
  12. I would suggest go back to the clay club and spend a bit of time there chatting to the shooters, they will offer advice and probably if a friendly club some informal coaching and maybe a chance to try out a gun or two and see which you get on with. From my experience of O/U's it seems people fall into two main camps, the Browning type and the Berreta type ( myself I am Browning and just can't get on with Berreta's. )
  13. Hi all. Stumbled upon this site when trying to find advice about FAC's and seems a good place to lurk Brought up in Cornwall with a Shotgun in my hands and rough/driven shot for years, over Spaniels, now looking into getting a Fac and Rimfire for rabbiting as shoulder injury making lugging a 12 bore about hard. Cheers, Paul.
