Chewing gum - the stuff itself and people doing it. Whether it's Alex Ferguson on the touchline chomping away like he's powering a turbine using solely jaw power or idiot people who chew the cud slowly and then smile at you so you can see it churning about... ick... STOP IT!! Shopping - just don't even go there. Grocery hunting is just hell on earth, why on earth do some people say they enjoy it?! And by association, the anarchy that is any supermarket car park. Sellotape - if I never saw another roll of it I'd die happy. Spawn of the devil it is. Never sticks anything it's supposed to

I think the guy is a nasty piece of work looking for a victim. Why else would you stop in the middle of a station tunnel and put the dog right in the middle, in the way like that? Why drop the lead? He was probably looking to use the dog as a frightener. I don't think he was expecting to come across another dog there, judging by the way he panics and tries to grab the dog when it launches. And I think he's scared of his own dog. What a complete..... well, words fail me, frankly.

In my opinion that's fine - saving a pic because you love it, maybe to show to people who aren't forum members or whatever. It's only the same as, say, cutting a picture out of a magazine and keeping it, for the same reason. I don't think many photographers would object to that, and most would be pleased that their shot had such an impact. When it becomes wrong is if you try and pass off the shot as your own for whatever reasons, either posting it elsewhere or selling it on for commercial gain. That's when it all gets a bit shady. Just my opinion, mind!

Are you though? You put images up because you want people to see them, not wander off with them under their arms (so to speak) and use them as their own. I think it depends what people want to use your image for; and they could at least ask first before they use it for anything and maybe give you a credit for it "Photo by..." doesn't hurt anybody, does it? You're on a forum, they can PM you. I've had images lifted from forums and used on other people's websites, mostly for charity or fundraising, so I end up not following it up; on one occasion somebody I knew bid in a charity auction for

Dog versus the fallen tree, and me and the camera versus some lighting issues...

If the guy had done "nothing whatsoever" with her, maybe she doesn't KNOW what she isn't or is supposed to do... maybe she's had no training? And you've had her, what, six or seven weeks? It's not long... I'd say you might have to teach her what you need her to know. Back to basics perhaps? Doesn't sound like the collar is going to work in this case.

He isn't always muzzled, it depends on where we are, what we're doing and with whom. He's a four-stone bull-cross with high prey-drive and is a rescue case with issues we're still overcoming (you would NOT want him near your pet cat or your ferrets, put it that way!). He is a work in progress. We live in an area with a lot of numpties, antis and chihuahuas on flexileads. The muzzle is to protect him as much as anything; should he make a mistake and I'm not there in time, we could be in for a lot of unwanted hassle. He has to wear a muzzle for racing and lure coursing so as far as

Just to add to the above - you did say the dog is passing black, tarry stools. "Tarry" is different from "runny" and could mean there is bleeding somewhere in the digestive tract, which would need to be checked by a vet. If he doesn't seem to have any control over it, it may be that he has an irritated gut somewhere?

You can also, with the sort of camera that takes the light reading and focus lock when you press the shutter half-way down, "fool" the camera, or at least experiment to see how best to catch the light. Frame your shot by pointing your camera at the middle of the scene you want to photograph, take your shot. Then point it at the lightest part of the scene, press and hold the shutter half-way, then swing the camera back to the scene, frame and take the shot. Then do the same again, pointing the camera at the darkest part of the scene, press and hold the shutter release button half-way, then

Let's breed some puppies for the money ("Are they eye and HC tested? I've no f***ing idea what that means!"), and then sell them to people who can't afford to buy them, let alone look after them. It'll be okay if they just keep them shut in a four-foot-square room and don't vaccinate or socialise them. Oh, and then we'll let one go as a Christmas present for some teenage children who aren't interested and really need some kind of professional help. And then one can go to somebody who wonders how she can let the puppy out every 45 minutes to housetrain it when she's out at work all day. One bit

There's quite a few imported rescued Galgos in this country but I don't know if any are worked; I wouldn't have thought so, though, as there is a huge welfare issue in Spain with the Galgos and the ones that end up here tend to be cruelty cases. There's info on them here Pro-Galgos

Not lurchers but on the subject of poodle crosses: in "Horse and Hound" last week there was a litter of "Cockerpoos" offered. £625 dogs, £675 bitches. Hmmm.

James, you have a PM!

Thanks for the comments! Um... Can't remember what motor got used on the lure in the end... I'll find out the technical details and let you know! As for the dog, he was dumped with an injury ended up in a pound and came to me that way, so the breeding is all guess-work, but grey, definitely a bit of bully in there, and maybe some whippet? Met somebody at an event a couple of weeks ago who said he thought the dog had been bred by a lad from Preston, and he did come from that area... but who knows?
-
Have to disagree there... a dog with half a brain more than knows the difference, and it's just a bit of fun, so if they WANT to chase a lure, why not?
-
A friend has just made one for me, and some pulleys to go with it... There's a couple of videos of my dog testing it on my "about me" page.

I can recommend you talk to ACES, they're good people. Plus you get to see some REALLY nice dogs!

Distinctive bitch stolen - Oxford - 19th September
Fabapocalypse replied to Fabapocalypse's topic in Lost and Found
Pleased to report this bitch is now back home. She was found wandering on a farm in Leicestershire, miles from home. The local dog warden scanned her microchip and she's been reunited with her owners. Nice to have a happy ending. -
East Of England Show-October 11th
Fabapocalypse replied to mooshka's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
I didn't make the show on Sunday but was at Peterborough running in the coursing fundraiser stakes on the Saturday, and had been talking to someone there about how a few years back there was often trouble around lurcher rings at shows (not this show in particular, just shows in general) and how some of the shows down here would have "security" in, just in case... but lately things seemed to have calmed down... and then something kicks off the very next day. Weird. -

Hmmm I'm not sure my Sykes-holding arm and shoulder have recovered from Brad's rabbit noises from last time!

As it's my local show I took my lad to Knebworth today, but as I've had a nasty germ all week he's not had enough to do and basically dragged me all over the showground whenever he felt like it. Bumped into Rich the Rabbiter and family having a much better day: I tried to get an action shot of his little bitch but I can thoroughly recommend NOT taking photos while holding an over-excited bull cross, because you miss shots, and this was the result... I think they picked up some ribbons in the showing as well. My lad managed a third in the Rescue class and second in the
