  1. Not being fair letting another man's ferrets help break my dog, I'm not asking to ride their sisters, just to help me break my dog as owning ferrets for the next 6 months isn't something I'm able to do. I've mentored a few people shooting and never had any problem letting responsible people along on hunts if they want to learn and I'd rather have witnessed a dog behaving correctly around ferrets and livestock than just taking someone's word on it. This attitude only leads to the decline of our field sports. Good luck lads enjoy your sport while it lasts.
  2. Cheers Pie-eater and vanman1. They were gutted within 15 minutes of being shot as they were taken on the walk back to the motor. Like I said the smell was fuxking unreal when they were boiling. I thought maybe I'd left something in guts-wise but nothing I could see. The meat was fine once it was stripped so don't know what the story was. Needless to say rabbit never graced the table in that house very often and I gave what I'd shot away to the local dog rescue
  3. Cheers, to be honest I wouldn't have just turned up with the pup un-muzzled in case the worst happened. Thanks again
  4. HOW NOT TO COOK RABBIT!! I once followed Mark Gilchrists recipe on preparing a large amount of rabbits in one hit with a view to then stripping the meat, covering in olive oil and saving in the fridge for using in different dishes. I started off poaching the rabbits 4 or 5 i think it was as per his instructions. They were freshly shot and dressed that morning. What he didn't mention was that the smell would be unreal. I was sharing a massive house 10 bedrooms 2 lounges etc and the smell was fecking disgusting we (I) had to wash the curtains it was that bad and got into everything. They were co
  5. A change of tack from my last post. I'm looking for someone or group I can tag along with ferreting. Looking to break my whippet to ferrets and learn a bit without having to rear ferrets myself. I am planning to have my own ferrets when the dog is old enough to be entered but not at the moment as I don't think it'll be fair on them (ferrets) just yet as I'm working funny hours. Anyone in Munster or Connaught who'd be willing to let me tag along i'd be very grateful. Will bring tae and sandwichs !!!
  6. Hi, Looking to break my whippet pup to ferrets but don't have the time to commit to owning them myself at the minute. No experience with ferrets myself but want to have the dog broken ready for next year. I'm not to sure whether I will lamp or work with ferrets but wanted the dog bomb proof in any case. Thanks LFM
  7. Hello, I live in Co Clare, Ireland. Formerly England and Channel Islands. I have hunted all my life shooting air rifle and 22lr. Mainly Rabbits, Grey Squirrels and rats and occasionally pigeon/dove normally as pest control and always for free. Moved to Ireland and couldn't bring my guns. Just got settled in Ireland and have started training a whippet for the first time. Hopefully to bag some bunnies or lure course and learn something new. Also going to apply for my SG and FAC now I know a few local farmers.
