Taking The Piss To A Whole New Level.
eastcoast replied to forest of dean redneck's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Looking at it from a different perspective it's rather a bold claim. Similar to advertising terriers that are guaranteed to go to ground or lurcher pups that will HJKC. The house training thing maybe relevant. I have struggled in the past keeping dogs in the house because it's alien to them and not been part of the selection process behind their breeding. But eventually the penny drops. But little prey drive ? I would question that. And be surprised if it's true. Those pups will want to chase and catch. It will be there in them just under the surface and appear if the new owners aren't ed -
Taking The Piss To A Whole New Level.

The canine equivalent of alcohol free wine! I wonder if they sell rabbit friendly ferrets? -
True DodFox.Let's not forget that the greyhounds that can still run and the beagles and foxhounds that can still hunt aren't KC reg. Of course it would still be a bad move for the Patterdale types but I think that the perception of hunting by the man in the street and the media that controls what they think is a far greater threat.

Looking For Adult Male Glrn Of Imaal Terrier
eastcoast replied to delonpara's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
An ad in TCW 03/08/16 for Glenn of Imaal Terrier pups. KC registered. Dumfies. Wheaton AND brindle. Not my place to give the number but I'm sure you can find it with information given. The person must own or know of a stud dog. -
No

Are you being serious

To go back to the original topic is the answer not simply to get the Patterdale terrier registered with the KC or AKC ? Then a breed standard will be written in stone and the honest breeders will gladly not sell pups of the wrong colour and also take pups that turn up in litters from their stock for 1 or 2 generations ? Then as long as no one gets to hear about it the rest of the blood remains pure bred. And everyone has peace of mind. And owns pure bred 100 per cent real deal stuff. As happened with the Parson Russell Terrier.

I agree working should come first never said it shouldnt. I think you missed what I was asking and took it to another place. I ASKED IF YOU WERE TOLD THERE WAS NO RUSSELL OR LAKELAND IN YOUR BLOOD AND WHITE DOGS POPPED UP OR BLACK AND TANS WOULD YOU QUESTION THE BREEDER? It sounds like some of you wouldn't care if the breeder lied. Lol. That it shouldn't matter..well it should matter.. If a person bought animals of an exact physical type, and had been assured that breeding from them would only produce that type, then if your future breeding within the next generation or so proved that to b

If such a thing were to happen then maybe a person would question whether the working terrier types, as we know them, came off the Ark or are a relatively modern creation ?

The breeder of the 1st proper terrier that I bought valued the pup at about that price in today's money. At the time my parents were dead against having another dog in the house and even more against encouraging my interest in dogs and hunting and the types of people that I was starting to follow about. The deal was that if I could make enough money to buy a pup myself and pay for injections/feed etc they would consider it. So it was a milk round before school, delivering the free papers after school and doing jobs for me dad's mates at the allotments at weekends. Cheaper than hiring a rotavat

English Bull And Their Crosses Thread.
eastcoast replied to Lenmcharristar's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
There is something unique to the EBT. I have been reading and enjoying this topic but don't think anyone has mentioned it yet. If they have then my mistake. The shape of the head. It wasn't a feature that Hinks developed but came later. As regards the various tasks that the EBT has been used for over the years is the unique head shape an advantage or a disadvantage in relation to it's peers, in a situation where everything else is equal ? I'm not knocking the EBT. I have yet to meet one that I didn't want to take home. In an ideal world it's a breed of dog that I would have liked to have -
Pablo, I believe Mr Gould registered his white dogs with the KC when the Parsons were accepted. I don't know the man and not pretending that I do, but I'm sure this was the case.

The subject of terriers being entered into the ring showing signs of recent work brings to mind the annual shows of DNWTC from years ago. The venue was Shotley Bridge club. A nature reserve next door. Badgers lived in the reserve. Before the British badger became the most protected life form on the planet, more protected even than the young of human beings. At the AGM one year the Chairman asked if members would try and desist from visiting the reserve with their terriers before the classes started as he was starting to receive complaints regarding this.

I think most know that whippets and whippet crosses can be catching rabbits before their 1st birthday. Particularly bitches. They can have the speed, co-ordination and correct mental attitude at an age when the larger sight hound types are still like Bambies on stilts and daft as brushes or scared of their own shadows. Their natural aptitude for catching rabbits can maybe allow us to unintentionally give them too much to do too soon. I know of two examples of dogs of this type getting off to a flying start and being run successfully before their 1st birthday but just failing to reach thei

Political. I don't like politics. But this is interesting and a bit annoying. Some people have not experienced recession it would seem. Well done, lucky for some, good luck. Others could argue that they have lived in a recession since the 1980's. An entire industry was destroyed in England during that decade and these areas have never recovered. A bit pathetic maybe ? A man has a duty to himself, and more importantly to his family, to find a job and provide . But if the industry is taken away and thousands of others are in the same situation then it isn't that easy. That never effected me, I w

The modern "British" greyhound and Saluki may look similar and were developed to perform the same job, sort of, but are very different animals. However, if a person gets a pup early enough in IT'S development then anything is possible. A dog can be created to suite the requirements of it's owner, if the owner has a plan/common sense and can make a connection with the animal. It helps if the dumb animal grows to love it's owner and even more so if the dumb owner allows themselves to become fond of the animal.
-
I reiterate that I'm no expert on Saluki or crosses. I'm not in the insurance business either so if she starts chopping sheep or pulling down deer in Richmond Park it's got nowt to do with me.. Early exposure to forbidden animals very important :-)

Katie B, welcome to THL. I don't know if you are aware of this but I believe Skycat is also a women of the female variety. I don't know for sure but if she is who I think then she is an extremely knowledgeable, experienced and respected person who writes for a weekly fieldsport paper on the subject of lurchers. So you see the running dog world is not just the preserve of us chauvinists :-) There are many folk on here who are far more knowledgeable than myself regarding the Saluki and maybe they are not ideal for someone starting out. I do think though that when choosing a type of dog

I see the two men in straw boaters as officer class. The man in the flat cap is PBI. Flat cap owns the ferrets and the none descript terriers. Kneeling boater owns the classy looking Fox Terrier, keeping a hold whilst the photograph is taking because it's a bit hot with ferrets. Who knows ? Thanks for sharing the image Darbo.

Known Jack Russells, "one Eyed Jack " And "the General"
eastcoast replied to brenner's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Out of all the recurring topics on THL I find the stuff about the white dogs worked and bred by the men of Cork the most interesting. I realise that I'm treading uninvited on sacred ground here but I think it is fair to call them a Sealyham type. P3d states that these working terriers are not related to the K.C. Sealyhams or the Parson Russell's dogs. A good thing of course. Idiots ruined the good work that Edwards achieved within a decade or so of K.C. recognition. The only accurate record of Russell's blood only lives on in the K.C. Fox terrier The Russell type and the Sealyham type exi
