    Yeah,..seen quite a few,...I think George Newcombe's out cross experiments, where he deliberately put Border's and Lakeland's over his Bedlington Terriers, definitely improved the contemporary, Bedlington terrier coat.. Mind you, for a roustabout bush busting, terrier based rabbiter, I would prefer the harsh, crisp red pelt of the Irish Terrier/Running dog hybrids. Are you in cahoots with Glover Mr.Lloyd ?     Thinking about this I have found raises more questions than answers. It could be argued that Britain is not and never was a " country ". Long before the influx of peoples from around the old empire and more recent additions we have always been a mix. A mix of the Home Nations, some were/are not best pleased with being part of Britain.     Most dedicated breeders of parsons haven't got a clue about working terriers. There are plenty who think they do but from 1st hand experience they are clueless. Incidentally what do you class as a pure parson seeing as you put up a picture of a Howlbeck bred dog?     A good point. Just because a dog has a KC cert and looks like a Labrador does not mean that it is a Labrador. Labs were developed as gun dogs as we all know and the qualities that they were selectively bred for just so happened to make them ideal pet dogs. But most now are so far removed from that, as regards intelligent selective breeding, that they are a different breed . I only say this because some of this breed that I've came across in recent years have been very dog aggressive. Not a trait that would be expected or tolerated in a gun dog breed but accepted by the modern owner/breeder.

    Hannibal, I find it a damned shame that you feel no longer willing to post. The whole snobbery thing with dogs, or life in general has always dumbfounded me. If you look at the Terrier and Lurcher sections on THL you will find people belittling all bushing dogs. Crazy. I don't often look at the hound or gundog sections but have experienced hunters of both types looking down on terriers and lurchers. And it goes on.     If you found one good terrier dog from unknown breeding that did well, and then a bitch from unknown that did well, and so bred from them. And the resulting terriers where tried and proved good, so bred from. Is that not creating a line ? My question would be where did these dogs of unknown blood come from ? If they are any good probably from well bred stock a few generations back. Unless KC registered stuff. Then you would have something out of the ordinary. They didn't walk off the Ark.

Times have changed, or so it would seem, surely no one would keep an unfit dog and them expect it to perform straight out of it's kennel if and when the mood takes or opportunity arises ?     Mad4, take a look at Blaise's thread in Write Up section. They're using them in France. I've seen a couple of Fox Terrier x working terrier years ago and they did a job but never seen a full modern KC working. The simple fact is that the type of dog that I think you're referring to is purely a product of the show ring. They were developed from a working terrier stamp originally by crazy people who mis-interpreted the breed standard and once they started they couldn't stop and ended up with a caricature of a terrier.     The first book that I enjoyed reading was Of Pedigree Unknown. Not the first book that I read but the first that I enjoyed reading. I came across it in the local library when I was meant to be looking for something else that I'd been told to read by a teacher from school.     Great paintings Trenchfoot. The thing with the eyes, Landseer said that the trick to successful animal painting is to give them human eyes. It isn't a trick, it's a talent, and your misses certainly has it. The collie cur ones I find the most interesting. The 1st one is very commercial. You can see that as a limited edition print in a trendy boutique or as a birthday card. The second one I find superb. Not just perfectly capturing a hound at rest but the colour and texture of the cushion, not easy and again good technique. Thanks for sharing them.
