  1. Yes and yes. And it is a cracking looking dog. Thanks for sharing the pics.
  2. Undoubtable a very fine looking terrier. But is it a Russell? A petty comment I suppose but I've been incapacitated with and old back problem for over a week and bored with reading the Bedlington Stud Dog Yorkshire thread.
  3. I know lads who have collections of screwdrivers and other tools. Sparks (particularly), plumbers, joiners etc. They may not realise that they have a collection but when things need replaced or a better item comes onto the market, what do you do with the old one? Chuck it out? No way, put in one of your old tool boxes in the garage or shed. It's a bloke thing.
  4. Not sporting scenes, but taken at kennels of a local hunt at their show on a very hot day a few years ago.
  5. True, he’ll also lick pots given the chance
  6. What exactly is on his mind? No ferrets were harmed.
  7. I can watch the programme without getting too annoyed but 3 things do confuse/annoy me about the people regularly featured: 1) The people featured live where they do, the none natives anyway, because they have decided to "opt out ", primarily to live "off grid" . They do not give a shit about the world that they left behind or the people that inhabit that world. I get that. But...why the f##k do they then invite a camera crew to live with them and film everything that they do? 2) How come most of them have no apparent field craft skills and can not shoot straight to save their lives
  8. I love showing off the North East. Sometimes it's to people from the south and sometimes from abroad. Once took a lass to Durham and she said to that "our" cathedral was the most beautiful building that she had ever seen. She was well travelled and born in Prague, they have some nice old piles over there. But Durham cathedral blew her way. She loved the Norman architecture.
  9. I've just watched the NUFC game. Don't think that Blackburn will be exactly shitting their knickers at the prospect of playing us this Tuesday. The Makem thing is a strange one and has never been conclusively defined . The version that I like dates back to the days when the shipyards on the Wear and broad majestic Tyne shared contracts. The main build happened on the Wear and the final fit out was done on the Tyne. The Wear lads said "we makem, and you takem". Don't know if that's true or not but we both used to build the best ships in the world. Most SAFC people that I know are prou
  10. The land of the Prince Bishops would be Durham
  11. The Hylton Castle Arms...that brings back memories, bad memories ?
  12. Checking the mouth for a correct scissor bite?
  13. Just look at what you have started Jr90! Welcome to THL ?
  14. Are you not overthinking things? A pet bred terrier and you have access to land/quarry and to date she's doing the job? Happy days man, just enjoy it. Carry on working her and make your own assessment whether an undershot jaw is a problem or not. If further down the line you did decide to breed from her then her mouth may be the least of your problems. What stud to use to replicate her type? Worker to worker people would say I suppose and pay no heed to the physical type. History/legend tells us that Jack Russell bought his foundation bitch from the local milkman. Who knows? Just enjoy hunting
  15. He was getting pissed off with people questioning his MO and the use of locators in particular if you read the last posts. Looks like he spat the dummy. Damned shame but hey ho...it's only the in'net.
  16. From an entirely selfish point of view an influx of Iranians may result in cheaper haircuts for me. I have long since gave up on getting a decent haircut at hairdresser shops. The pretty young things in those places seem to be disgusted by my hairy neck and ears. Can't blame them really. The older I get the more I think that I have stage 4 Hairy Hands Syndrome like Father Jack. No such problems at the Turkish Barbers though. They singe, they pluck and finish off with the sharp cut throat razor. Turkish barber shops everywhere now. Most of the lads working in those places seem to be Irania
  17. It saddens me to read about the man's decline in later life. It should not as I did not know him, never even met him just knew of him and read his book. I was once offered a "reject" KC Foxwarren pup after a well intentioned friend mistakenly though that I would be interested in it and gave my contact details to the breeder. After speaking to the man on the phone he insisted on bringing the pup to shown me. "Once you see it you will want it". So he rocks up with supposed dam, sire and pup in the back of his transit. The pup was not good enough to register but would make a cracking working
  18. They were ORIGINALY bred to take their place in a world ran by the Master Race. Anything that was not Germanic would be destroyed. Says something about how the Nazis viewed the English. They liked the Fox Terrier so it must have Germanic origins . Regarded the white colour as the wrong colour so basically endeavoured to breed a black and tan Fox Terrier. Says something about the Nazis that they seemed to of not been aware of the Welsh or Lakeland Terrier.
  19. To some folk money should not change hands when working terrier pups do. I can understand and respect that but how many people are part of those elite groups? The reality of it is that most of us do need buy at times. Ideally when a surplus may be available when replacement stock is bred due to unforeseen circumstances, as unfortunately happens with terriers. Should any surplus be culled? To me £300 from good breeding is a gift to a vetted stranger. Would barely cover your costs with docking and 1st jabs. Foxwarren KC stuff does go for silly money, to silly people? I am assuming the ones we a
  20. Irish Wolfhound, Irish Terrier, Kerry Blue Terrier, Irish Setter, Irish Spaniel. A very nice accreditation certificate. A varied assortment of dogs though. Who gave it and why?
  21. Made me smile...even if it is red and white ?
  22. As a racing greyhound he was shite. I would not of been able to afford him if he was any good. But he did ok as a lurcher.
  23. One of the pure bred greyhounds that hunted with. Not a good analytical drawing of a greyhound admittedly but all I have of him.
  24. Great to see Borders still being worked and bred as workers. Even though I have never actually owned one they have always been my favourite type looks wise. A stupid this to write on a working terrier thread maybe but I do mean a favourite as a physical blueprint for a working terrier. Strong heads and double coats seem to be something that has been fixed into Borders many years ago. Even though the ones that I have personally seen, particularly males, have been a little bit on the large side they never seem to be heavy shouldered or overly deep chested. A problem sometimes in other strong he
  25. As Mrs. Beeton apparently never wrote "1st catch your hare". But if you have a hare then you are already having a good day. I am a vey good cook these days, in all modesty, but the most enjoyable game that I have eaten was prepared in what I always called the Henry VIII style. Catch it, gut it, skin/pluck it, roast it. Serve on a plate accompanied by a healthy appetite. Knife and fork optional.
