  1. Seems as though you have a "special" one there Aussie Whip. A terrier that has the typical working terrier traits of drive, intelligence , energy and gameness but in excess of the normal ones. A terrier that will test you as much as you test it. Treasure it while you can, when those flames burn brightly, Sod's Law, they tend not to burn very long.
  2. Lakelands and Russells were the most popular working types in NE England at one time. Terriers that were bred for work but also of a type that would get placed at shows during summer months. I met up with a lad who I hadn't seen for about 20 years recently and he still keeps that same type of Lakeland but admitted that they don't get the same type and amount of work that we once gave them. More to do with not having the same enthusiasm these days and present laws rather than the dogs not being capable.
  3. I wish cyclists would show the same levels of consideration to pedestrians on footpaths as they expect and get, by me anyway , from motorists when they are on the roads. Not a joke I know but they really piss me off.
  4. Does he keep Parson's?...sorry, I'll get me coat.
  5. I'm a traditionalist when it comes to stocks, must be wood and walnut when I could afford it. Could never live with a fully synthetic stock but that laminate job is a thing of beauty.
  6. I was given this a few year ago and always had to swerve questions about what I thought of it, as I hadn't read it until today. Good read for people of a football or northern persuasion. Confirmation that apathy, lack of ambition and greed are not new things in the world of football in regard to those who control the clubs. Probably more so in the north east of England than elsewhere else. When I read a book it is always in the hope that I find out something new to me which is not difficult as I know bugger all about f**k all. Found two things in this book: 1) I knew that Kevin Kee
  7. Not sure what one that was but they seem to kick off every now and again. Using their strengths and never use teeth. Should never be in cages. But then again I think the same rules should apply to rabbits and budgies.
  8. Yep tradigides have happened with captive whales, and you can't really blame them. Can't think of more cruel thing to do to a wild animal than keep it locked up.
  9. Is there any recorded evidence of 1 of these things taking a human being? As they seem to be frequenting north east of England coast some lucky Geordie may get into the history books. Won't be me though.
  10. So you're thinking people are impulse buying to relieve the bordem or appease the kids? Interesting point. Haven't seen so many people walking dogs or so much dog shit around than there is at the moment. Where did these people "exercise " their dogs before this started? I'm thinking that did not walk them and their unfortunate pets just shit in the house or garden. A negative thing to say and of course people are finding these changes to their lives difficult to deal with but a local farmer has ploughed 2 fields of growing barley in an attempt to deter the zombies from tramping over the more p
  11. It has gone crazy on dog for sale sites since the present situation started. I do often look on these sites, not that I'm after a dog just probably a bit weird. I like looking at dog for sale adverts dating back to Exchange and Mart days. Prices have doubled and tripled in the last few weeks. There was a very ordinary looking adult Russell bitch with no mention of work on P4homes yesterday for £1,200. Not on today so may have been sold? Today a litter of Russell pups £1,600, not KC. Crazy money for any dogs , insane money for ordinary pet dogs.
  12. Seems like a legitimate question to me. Is adding other blood to greyhounds and whippets in order to produce something more robust than the pure sighthound not one of the fundamental reasons for creating lurchers in 1st place?

    Old cars

One worth getting in the present for the future for a person who has somewhere to store one is the Alfa Brera I think. The only car that I wanted and could afford but never got around to buying. Came close twice. 1st time test drove one and a Mazda RX8 but the Mazda won hands down. The next time was a choice between the Alfa and Mk2 Audi TT, once again the Alfa lost out. The reason being, apart from build quality issues is that they handle like a canal boat. The reason that I have always wanted one is that in my opinion they are one of the best looking cars ever made. I could not live wi

A camel hair coat, trilby and start referring to the missus as 'er indoors ?
  15. I have had this one since bought new in '80s. .22 with carbine barrel. Cost £99.99, I remember the price because my budget was £100 and a retailer in AW was doing a sleight discount on them and it came with the sling swivels fitted. It has been retired for many years now but was a very capable hunting rifle with enough power and accuracy for day and night time rabbit shooting. Was only retired after a PCP was obtained about 10 years later. I was not aware that it was a direct copy of the Anschutz but certainly influenced by the German guns. At the time PCPs were a very expensive rarity, r
  16. Please see attached probably the worst wildlife photographs that you are ever likely to see. They are of a kestrel. The dot in the sky is the subject being photographed. Seen it today on land that I have walked for 40 odd year. At one time they were so common that would not have warranted a second glance even though I have never been able to walk past one hovering without standing and admiring and hoping that it would drop and raise back up with a mouse or vole. Haven't seen one on this land for a few years. I do see buzzards now which never existed on this land, during my time, until abo
  17. Read this again today. I was forced to read it the 1st time as it was on English syllabus at school. I would liked to have read it before everyone thought it was a masterpiece in the same way that I would liked to have listened to the Beatles before everyone thought that they were great. Never really got the Beatles even though I've tried listening to them. Read 1984 once again today and did not really enjoy it, even though I get it.
  18. Bedlington cross or working Sealyham Daniel cain?
  19. I think none but the most naive or optimist of Newcastle supporters are expecting established and proven world class players being signed in the period between this season ending and the next one starting whenever that may be. But, if the club is sold to the people that the media are having us believe then those type of players will be signed by NUFC. If not then the buyers will have been proved to be fools or Ashley has proved to be a genius.Ashley is most certainly not a fool but are the new buyers fools? It will take time but not too much time. Four seasons at the most before they are
  20. A cheeky request, and the answer will probably be F O and not Foreign Office but...any picture of one of these dogs? Cheeky request but it is an internet forum that you have commented on so not that such an unexpected request?
  21. Ignore...too much red wine, don't know how to delete.
  22. Modern KC lumps trying to catch rats or proper working Sealyham type terriers?
