  1. The main objection to the "fan zone" is from a councillor who says that the noise would be unacceptable to local residents. People who choose to live in a city centre next the big football ground will be upset at the sound of people enjoying themselves! I suspect the real reason is that this person would prefer that Newcastle were known as a city of culture and diversity bla, bla, bla rather than something as uncouth and working class as football. You guessed it she's Labour. But as WILF would say, we voted for her (I didn't but somebody must have).
  2. The last Newcastle United manager being courted by England was Alan Pardew after, I think, 5th place for us. Just enjoying the football at the moment and well aware that it can, and probably will, go tits up at any time
  3. Murphy's goal against Palace. A cross or a fluke? It matters not. A prime example of a player who looked destined to drop down a division from the EPL never to return not that long ago. Simply not an EPL quality player. What changed that, and it has happened to quite a few at Newcastle? Is Eddy Howe in possession of football's Philosopher's Stone and can create gold from lead? Could it be something as simple as getting the players fit and training them properly with a real game plan that they all understand? It would be interesting to find out Almiron, Sean Longstaff, Schar, Joelinton, Willock
  4. No matter what it has messed up our recruitment in regard to FFP for this season. £50M and goodness how much in wages. No different than a long term injury I suppose and Longstaff gets more of a chance with the big money signing not being an option anymore.
  5. This Tonali thing is annoying. Just when Newcastle were making only back page headlines another knacka messes it up. Apparently the kid cried when told that he was being sold and cried when the coppers came a knocking with the gambling thing. OK, he is a young lad but does not seem very strong mentally or the sharpest pencil in the box. Undoubtedly talented though and a complete ban from playing wont do him much good from a mental perspective. I think in these circumstances the player should be allowed/made to go on loan and play in a lower league. I suggest Leeds, Preston or Birmingham in the
  6. This race, I could be confused but it is mC HULL against a dog? From scratch or handicap?
  7. That is a bonny dog. Safe around stock?
  8. The nice ham with the bread crumbs (Micky Flanagan)
  9. Men who have been sent to the supermarket by their wife/girlfriend and are being controlled remotely via a mobile phone like some non-sentient automaton. Howay lads, have we really become so pathetic?
  10. Them Polos are nice. Seen this one close to Ballinamore only a few years ago.
  11. Rear while drive transit. Police officers turned up. The 1st on the scene had a brief conflab with me and quickly cancelled the air ambulance. Some well meaning half wit had reported a bus crash. I had already called our standard recovery, and even though the lad said his rig was not man enough (a f***ing big rope) the policeman allowed us to try. The rope snapped. Next one turned up with a bigger rig. Did not work. Eventually the police offered the service of something that could do the job but warned me that we would have to pay for it. In the mean time the traffic was backed up for miles in
  12. This is a double pet hate. Bad drivers and apprentices. Phone call 5 minutes after being dropped off at home I think you need to come and look at the bus... no I do not want to look at the bus, see you tomorrow... no, I think you really need to come and look at the bus! The little prick had somehow managed to create this by attempting a 3 point turn. He's a project manager now, God help us all.
  13. I also spotted these in the same place and felt sorry for them and so gave them some bananas. Big mistake, they followed me home.
  14. I was looking through an old project folder today and came across these pictures that I had forgotten about. Difficult to tell what type of animal it was from the photographs but the silhouette definitely suggests some kind of big cat.
  15. Whatever makes people happy. Bah humbug!
  16. I was in Stevenage 3 weeks ago for a family funeral and stayed in a pub, the Green Man, and they had a Christmas tree. Fully decorated. I did ask why, thinking it may be a quirky thing that they do all year round, but no, it was the 2023 Christmas tree. And it had a very strong smell of onions. Discovered the next morning that it was surrounded by fields of onions.
  17. WHU v NUFC, just in case anyone still waits to watch on MOTD, without giving the result, due to poor refereeing Karma saved it.
  18. Was this the thread asking for pictures of past Patterdales? I have no original photographs but had intended to scour through old EDRD's and books. These are a few from on the top of the pile of hundreds. Can only upload to 14.65 MB though.
  19. That type of personal opinion people are simply not allowed to have. Not in 1984, sorry 2023.
  20. I see Kevin Keegan has commented that he does think that women footballers are qualified to make analysis on the men's high level professional game. Joey Barton has agreed. Oh dear, that's them sentenced to the UK media equivalent of a Soviet gulag. I almost tuned into Loose Women, sorry Football Focus, to see it start but doubt is was mentioned. Real life has no relevance on the BBC's Loose Focus/Football Women programme.
  21. Certainly a thought provoking thread. I love listening to and watching Nina Simone. An enigma, an original but not a diva? Lady Gaga (LG) has been mentioned. At the risk of sounding pretentious (pretentious, moi?) I am not a fan of LG but love listening to Stefani Germanotta ever since listening her duets with Tony Bennett. some of the songs (caps have gone again) 2018 a star is born are superb but la vie en rose is up there with edith paif or liza minnelli. dolores o'riordan, amy winehouse, sinead o'conner, all singers who could sing a song and touch a nerve. more poignant now that they
  22. Lacking in body somewhat but a palatable little red nonetheless.
  23. Who's land is it on? Simple question but I found out years ago that every square inch of England above the high tide mark is owned by someone and you cannot do anything anywhere in England without the permission of the person or persons who own that land. Who owns the land and did they give their permission to fell the tree? If there was a badger sett below the tree and someone's terrier had got to ground... the executioner would already be sharpening his (or her) axe.
  24. I haven't used this for years but always used Wasps, simply because that was what I used in my Airsporter S and later Webley Omega at the time. Capable of clean kills on rats anywhere upper body (but always had a terrier in attendance) and clean kills on close range rabbit with a head shot (but always had a terrier close by). I would not use it on live quarry these days, no longer have the required skills.
  25. An extreme metaphorical political statement? Another bit of old England that took hundreds of years to grow destroyed in the blink of an eye. Or pure vandalism by people who have no love for this land? Probably just an apprentice who was on his phone during the pre-start meeting that day and HR will blame his supervisor if you try and sack him.
