Pickering Game Fair @ Malton ~ Yorkshire
trapliner replied to Giro's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Went along for a look today with the family weather good so was an enjoyable day out but why these show organisers can't get the entry system right astounds me must have qued for best part of an hour you need to get the vehicles in then pay through a gate that u walk through not rocket science really just get the traffic off the main roads. -
Have found that dogs that live indoors suffer worse than kenneld dogs do beleave pads harden better on concrete or flags also dogs that pee in there runs and stand in it have harder pads due to the salt content in urine them that live on carpets inside get stung worse.

Will try that cheers

Just had a border terrier batch vaccinated at the vets and the batch took a turn for the worse it's head swelling up to size of a football and off its food so back to vets and got antibiotic and steroid jab thankfully dog on mend now just wondering has this happened to anyone else and how common it is.

Bit of kit I take with is a forked stick with pice of string tied across the two prongs very useful for getting fox out of tube to despatch or scruff if it sat back a bit push stick up tube fox strikes at it then twist stick and string tightens round top muzzle then draw back to shoot or scruff also seen it done with a net on a stick a couple of times but forked stick been good to me a few times.

It a real sickner when it happens seems to be happening more and more I look after a shoot not too far away from you and only last wk I was lining out my beaters when two young lads came walking past on the footpath with two terriers and a bull x all looked to have done a bit,but as they were on a public footpath I couldn't say any thing was only when I got to the standing guns I found out that they had left the track and wanted to go into the woods luckerly one of the guns told them we were shooting there next so to sod off somewhere else but a couple of spots have been dug there too probably

Have had a couple of three leggers one missing a back leg other missing a front wouldn't like to say how they lost there limbs rifle shot or car accident but both in good condition also had one with stitches in its back leg proving that it was dumped then there was the one we dug that had a snare round it's neck with the wire completely grown over with skin and fur when we showed the keeper on the estate he told us he had one chew out of a snare months before we caught up with him the certainly are survivors.

trapliner replied to Workingdogtomf's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Wouldn't even think about going out until end of November at the earliest far too much cover about hundreds of acres of maze crop for them to lig up in yet , have found going trying holes this time of year with nowt in just gets the dogs bored then they start messing on rabbits shure they think better to work something rather than nothing so Nov early Dec for me to have higher chance of dropping on. -

trapliner replied to big napper's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Went to cla absolute joke only caters for the wealthy all clothing expensive shotguns or pictures nothing at all on gamekeepers row and don't even mention the fishing village only one stand selling course or sea fishing tackle the other twenty stands only sold fly or salmon fishing stuff says it all only went as it local but midland beats it hands down every time . -
They may well be innocent of their badger related charges but surprise surprise they on land without permission is their any wonder they get the book thrown at them when will they ever learn . if u on ground with full permission of the land owner and get accused of whatever at least they will back u up u would hope .

What Breed Should I Go For?
trapliner replied to dannsmith97's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Said it yourself really get a little bolting bitch so u can get round plenty of places in a day especially if there is a fall of snow worth their weight in gold to a keeper when time is short little Russell bitch ideal if u can find one. -
Am sure u one of the good ones rat face there is a few of u have dug with a good few but u can't deny some wrong uns from west of the river just tired of finding good places destroyed think we can all agree there.
-
No thanks rat face sneaking about in folks back gardens and public playing fields in middle of Leeds not my idea of fun will leave that to you urban hunters to trench them places to bits in your tracking bottoms and trainers suppose that clothing for quick gettaways makes sense.
-
Far too many spots dug by people who not supposed to be there round this ,area nearly always the west Yorkshire brigade doing it.
-
Down here on holiday at moment have brought three dogs with me not the full pack always up for a bit of ratting if it will help u out here till Friday if that any good let me know can sort something out

I like to take the .410 and the twelve with us just find using the twelve in the dig fills it full of smoke so can't always tell that the quarry is dispatched especially when they are peeping so prefer smaller caliber for job.
