Yes pretty much spot on with whats happening. Thanks for everyones input on this thread. Ive taken her out a few times since I started this thread but conditions have not been ideal. Maybe ill have to wait till October time now. I wont give up on her though.....

ok thanks for the advice and the offer from look up of taking us out to show us the ropes, I may take you up on it yet. Just to clarify, if I see rabbit at aboutb 100yrds do I quietly walk up to it keeping lamp on the whole time? Or Walk up about half way with lamp off then flick beam back on to see where its at? I don't mind going out and just seeing what works best, but its handy to have at least a small idea what to do.....

Is 50yrds a bit too far away to be slipping?

If its taken you 6 months to get the re-call right it will take you 27 years to cover the rest of its education,it won,t be around then mucker,speed up the education process and get the initial slips down to a few easier yards,your input is negating the dogs ability,gen up mucker.I got her at 6months old and she had some bad habits, hence why it took me ages getting recall.I'll stick with her though till she starts catching on the lamp. Day work is not a problem.

I took my bitch out for her first time on the lamp. I know its late to be taking her out, but I spent the last 6 months getting recall up to a decent level. So we got to the meadow and her first run was on a sitter at about 50yrds. I thought it was a dead cert, but she ran straight past it! This sort of thing happened every time I slipped her or rabbit made it to cover before she got close enough. I called it a night before I got too annoyed with her. Im using an mtc mamba on air rifle. Im considering a second mtc scope but wondered what other people find works well with nitesite nv gear. I have found the mamba is ok for close range ratting work but not so great for longer range work with the rimmy.... If anyone else has any suggestions I would be glad to hear from them

Can anyone advise on which scopes work well with the nitesite viper? Ive got a Niko Stirling Mount Master on my .17 HMR but it has to be the worst scope ive ever used. So I am looking out for a new scope. Any recommendations that are proven to work well with nitesite sub £400

Ah ok thanks for all the advise. Ive been doing some training with a dummy and a lamp, she gets the idea just doesn't always look down the lamp.... Ill wait till the grounds thawed a bit and the moon is not so bright. The meadow I plan to take her on is pretty flat, but there's not loads of rabbits. Ive checked it out a few times around 9pm and seen only a few, real close to the hedges too.... Maybe I would be better to try around midnight or later? She is just over 1 year old. Ive had her 9 months now. Recall was really bad, but now its almost spot on. Im chuffed with that alone

No dpb82uk, unfortunately her recall is s**t at the moment. I know I need to get this sorted before I can take her out. Lots of work to be done.....

I am trying to train my dog to work on the lamp, the thing is she doesn't seem to know she needs to look down the beam. At these early stages I have been training her in the garden with a rabbit fur covered tennis ball. (I heard this is a good way to start) Instead of being by my side looking forward and down the beam she stands in front of me watching for my arm to move and the ball to be thrown. Needles to say she is my first dog and we both have a fair bit to learn. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
