  1. See this link American KC now recognises the smaller (not Parsons types) JRT as a Russell Terrier. scroll down to near the bottom to view. Whats your thoughts on the breed being registered? & also your thoughts on the dog in the picture? ........................? Should make for a good bit of harmless banter
  2. Lucky buggers, shame some of us have to work.
  3. A white lakeland dog before grooming!LOL & after a quick go over.
  4. I heard Ruby done well at selkirk wasn't it?, one lad said to me no one should turn up when Ruby goes as they all know who'll win Does anyone have any pics of the show?
  5. LOL & then the cheeeky gits have these crosses entered in russell classes at shows, luckily i'm not a rosette hunter nice dog by the way, what height is he? & does he work?
  6. Quite correct Fellman, most of the fell packs terriers are small bolting dogs, theres quite a mixed bunch with some packs but they get the job done. I don't think i have ever seen a terrier working with a fell pack thats big in height or chest. i think the size of an airedale statement might have been an over exaggeration or too much drink blotting the eyes. A couple of my russells have cowan blood in them & they are far from big.
  7. Heres a website for you, if your dogs a working lakeland though remove most of the leg hair as well rather than leaving too much on like a show dog. leave the facial hair. Grooming a Lakeland
  8. If your still using this forum contact me please. Would like to know if your fell had any pups yet & i haven't got your new phone number.
  9. As a professional groomer i can advise that you can still strip this coat & bring it back to how it should be, god knows why people buy wire coated breeds if they are going to clip the lot off & ruin the dogs natural protection against the eliments. A dog with a soft coat will not do well in cold weather if you are going to work it by an chance. So get a stripping knife & start removing the dead fluffy hair once it starts to regrow, just run the stripping knife through the coat & you will see the soft stuff start to come away this will encourage re growth of a harsher top coat,
  10. His dogs are all KC reg parsons& yes he does give quite a few away paxo, i guess he can spare them with the amount he has. Anyway why not just visit his website & contact him yourself www.foxwarren.co.uk nice man but be careful.
  11. Ok my towpenneth, i don't own plummers never will but mostly what i hear on this forum is plummers are crap & few work so why would you all be bothered about them possibly being taken into any KC? surely you'd want rid of them into such a place if you thought they were now't but crap As to the black dogs they are already registered with the UKC in the USA & talks of them being taken into the FCI over the next few years, England however is not part of the FCI so no worries there.
  12. The KC will not recognize a breed until a club of good standing has been registering dogs for 10years & you must also have the support of many breeders & a proper breed standard that has been unaltered for 10 years. No crossbreeding of any kind can of been done in the past 10 years either. You need to speak to Mrs Hallett at the KC. I know this as i have tried in vain to have the Jack Russell recognized as a seperate breed from the Parson Russell, we will get it but only in time though if the KC joins the FCI we would be better off on the scale! The Irish Kennel Club registered th
  13. Lovely looking dog hope he does well for your son & gives him the working bug! Out of interest does anyone know who it is in the Lake District who has imported a black lakeland from Germany? its a KC reg show bred one that hes going to show at working terrier shows so i have heard on the european grape vine. TUT TUT TUT
  14. Very interesting topic of discussion. I was glad to see JOEB mentioned genetic defaults, how do you know if your dog has a hereditary genetic default unless that is you test for it? Do you all eye test your dogs to make sure they are not carrying any eye problems this could infcat make a dog thats worked well all its life just suddenly not want to work as it cannot bloody see whats its doing! Its only about £32 a dog to have it done well worth it IMO. Also do you patella test & check for perthes in your dogs, this is also another reason a dog can stop working. You have to think
  15. I have a few JRTs who have gone to people who do alot of shooting, the Jacks do pretty well with small birds (ducks, pigeons etc) & will retrieve them, i think this is part down to training & being reared with the owners working Labs though one dog is really just a small wee thing (too small for fox work) though his owners take him out on shoots all the time, he helps bring what he can back by dragging it LOL
  16. Luxating patellas is a disease thats rife in some terriers can cost you a lot of money in vets fees if you go for operations, sometimes its best just left alone unless causing alot of pain, it is hereditary but can also be caused by a severe injury. I have often been asked by dimwits if i could sell them a dog that hops about on 3 legs as they seem to think a JRT should do this :realmad:
  17. who has good lines? ME but then again don't we all.
  18. Nice little dog, how old is he? & what size?
  19. If your re registered in another name drop me a PM, would like to ask you something
  20. Been, seen, not impressed , he has lots of dogs , granted some do work & do the job well but i think hes more into the show side now his dogs are registered Parsons. Theres a lad on isle of wight has some nice working Jacks though, will look him up for you.
  21. I don't think shes too small, its like asking if a 20lb plus & 14" high Patterdale is too big, horses for courses JRTs are reknowned bayers, if you want a dog who will mix things try Fells or Patts. Personally i'd rather go out with a dog whos sensible & holds its quarry at bay whilst we dig down to it or the dog bolts its quarry, better than having a dog laid up for a few weeks because it was too hard or braindead. I have a 10" JRT bitch called Gemma, shes nearly 6 years old, shes only 9lb weight but shes one hell of a nasty piece of work on quarry & can turn on a pin, takes her
  22. Back on to the topic :11: after a disscussion with some mates we all agreed on past terriers were better because they were kept for working purposes first & conformation last, too many these days keep dogs because they look the part but when it comes down to it alot of them cannot graft like the old lines, thats why many people keep chasing the old line dogs to try & get back what they see as the epitome of a perfect worker. By the way on boxing did anyone watch those 2 girlies dancing about on saturday night? I'm glad Danny Williams won, probably the most boring fight i've watched.
  23. Yes ThursoJack, its me! :11: Good to see you on here asking for sound advice.
