great news mate and well done ,what was the birds top weight just on average a male harris goes around 1-7 unless ur talking peruvians ect .dont want you taking him to low just incase thats all
-
you will need alot of room on your land fella to fly one ,not a bird i have flown or wanted to but good luck, whats ur reason for wanting to fly one if you dont mind me asking
-
if he is footing you ,you want to get a feather and sit there stroking his feet mate as you dont want a bird that you cant change his gear when you want to do anything with him ect ,as jasp said you would of been betterhooding him earlyer on in the begining mate.if you have been putting the food on your glove with the righ hand he will foot you as his weight is dropping ,his hunger is increasing ,dont let hi see you putting food on the glove close in when he is on the glove or u will end up with a footy bird .

they look like there on rollins blocks mate ,im not keen on his anglo pattern looking at the pic as looks a bit to rounded as though its been blocked ,
-
good thread but ur jessies are still wrong way fella not having a dig just trying to help .if you worried do one at a time.things like this is where a bird made to the hood helps people no end
-
hi jasp nice write up mate and totlly agree about putting a dutch on a gos as i have done in the past ,if hooding a hawk i so rather go for a nice fitting anglo due to the shape of the birds head .its amzing people will go out and pay good hard earned money on a bird and its furniture and then go on ebay and buy a hood for a tenner and thencomplain there bird hates it instead of getting quality hood thats made for he bird ,even hood makers dont always get it righ and will make a hood for someone and be a size out as you can only have a guide line to go of . as u was saying jasp making a bird
-
always used a type of cadge but with seperators inbetween each bird just incase the worse happens,as u say the giant hood does have some plus points but i still believe a good fitting hood on a bird out weighs the giant hood plus the benifits of a bird made to the hood
-
regarding braces on a hood as much as i love the leather ones i find they slacken ofover time and you end up putting tiny cable ties on or new braces ,by using gortex they keep the same tension and dont give like the leather do
-
its funny people will go out and pay £90 for a giant hood and not go out and buy a good fitting hood instead which is cheaper ,more benificial ,got more uses ect and takes up a hell of alot less space
-
there more for show as u can guess but do look nice one a pere ect
-
what im saying it get the expericance before getting a bird not the other way around ,spend a few seasons leanring the ropes before getting a bird .far to many doing it other way round . what i ment with the price is ,if buying a bird for 2k of ur hard earned money poeple will learn everything before getting the bird ,but vos of the low price harris are bringging peple are going out -buying a bird and then trying to learn as they go this way th bird will sffer with poor bird management not the falconry as if worse happens and it dies or flies of they just go out anf buy another cos of the lo
-
how much land have you got and what game have you got to go at leanr before getting a bird as only the bird will suffer ( hate the price of harris now days as this would nver happen if the birds where still 2k )
-
all i hear is GOS ,GOS GOS ,i have owned and flown gos;s anre there bloody hard work i feel ,if you work fulll time i dont see how on earth you can give this bird the what its needs are you need to be out i feel5 times a week and getting its a good slip and a kills under its belt to keep it fit .i did not enjoy flying them and unless i got the time i wont again ,redtails are bloody awsome birds and very underated and you can learn a hell of alot with one more so than a harris and i ALWAYS tell new people to get a red never a harris ,
-
well im going to start a thread regarding hoods and the use of them or lack of it in falconry now days, people will always hood a falcon but hardly any will hood a hawk ,is this due to lack of knowlage or experiance for the benifits of hooding a bird during manning process and then into the rest of its times you got the bird also,i was a hood maker until i was unable to sit at my bench to make hoods anymore due to serious back issues .here is some of my work and the dutch hoods where made on ron rollins blocks ,alot of my influance has come from ken hook ,steve tait ,ron rollins among others .h

I have harris hawks for sale. Do you have pictures of your facilities for your birds? What knowledge do you have to justify having a harris hawk? Any answers to the above questions? People are asking big questions about you. good on you ,not seen that in a post for a long time
-
sorry for trying to help you out ill leave u to it
-
good productive manning is a big plus in my eyes as u see and her it all the time ,i beleive a good tiring used on the glove so the bird is not just sat there but is doing somthing productive on the glove as in working on the tiring ,this way the bird is getting a really good positive reaction to what its doing on the glove. i totally agree with you regading good the birds as i do with all my birds but i was a hood maker so it does help . it amazes me how few people dont hood there birds and dont know the benifits for doing it in the first place
-
never put a hooded bird on a post at all a hooded bird on a bow and im a beleiver of not hardly touching a bird for the first few weeks and not having the bird on the glove alot and st there for hours on end like alot tend to do these days ,i post are good to stop a bird baiting like my shelf perchs for the falcons as they sit a waist hight and have no issues what so ever.
-
that looks a good job that mate and to be honest something like that will help me big time because my back is knackered and save me bending so far to him i suffed with degeneration of the spine mate so know all about back pain as im on 24pills aday plus anasteic patches on me all the time to try help
