Its a sad state of affairs mate keep hearing people say that falconry is on the way up . they must be looking at it with rose coloured glasses or lived in a cave for a few years Jasper dont think they can see the woods for the trees mate and as you know its going in the opposite direction

I totaly agree with what you said Grovesy . its too late now as I have now had this dog for near on five years but I have to say if I knew then what I know now I wouldn't have chosen a Brittany. Ron Digby has one which is a dark dog! he's a cracking worker with his falcons but not the best looker, I also saw another on a field meet at Elvedon and have to say it was a funny looking thing with tufted up ears . I would love a ESS if someone brought it on a bit for me, I don;t think these days I could take on a pup ... Jasp that pup stage is the worse bit i agree as u have to let them
-
Got to say Mine's not a bad looker for a Brittany, I've seen some seriouse Ugly one's but mine's like Marlyn Munroe compared to them Can't speak for others but mine points for England, she's got a cracking pointing instinct and will point game all day long but I'm fooked if I would have another one . I've had a few dogs in my time but never come across one quite to Hyper as this thing, don't get me wrong it will work all day if you ask it but how often would I fly a hawk all day? I seen a couple of spaniels work with birds and they take some beating, but they can also be pretty full o

-
if u got heavy cover shello to work that the wrong type of dog my as u want a bramble basher .pointers suit gos and falcons far better and they can tend to rain outr far
-
ya cockers are the same its all about good foundation mate and doing the same thing all the time, there working dogs not pets that how you got to look at them first and for most , make sure you get a good working ped with lots of ftch in them more recent than past ,the youngest spanial i got at the mo has about 50 over 5 generation ,was sired by a ftch and see it going thorugh the bloodline,i paid £450 so give you an idea and make sure u get one docked

That is my worry with my lurcher as i know if a rabbit breaks cover my lurcher will give chase and i think it would be unfair to tell him to leave it as i have been training him for 2 years nearly to chase and catch rabbits. they get on fine when out and dont bother each other at all but saying that a rabbit has never been chased when i have had them both out together. I think i would prefer a pointer but wouldnt rule out a springer or cocker as i would like to use a dog for rough shooting and working with the lurcher. What do you prefer mate springer or cocker and how different are they in
-
if ur getting a pointer you got to think the dog will not be bolting rabbits for you as the dog has to be encouraged to point not bolt game.for that you want a springer (i got 3) or a cocker ,both are great dog as long as you train them proper and keep ontop of one ,but that said so does a point need to be trained propper, im training a pup springer at the mo and she is 8 month old and she has not been allowed to bolt any game and wont be worked proper till next season ,your dog has to be rock steady and more so around falconry birds a english setter needs alot of open space to run propper a

dead right Paulus! I can see Goshawks going the same way mate, perhaps not so dramatic but its not far off. far too many hawks being bred these days exceeding demand.... the other thing I hate is the way the Harris is used as a stepping stone to a Gos and passed from pillar to post. I was talking to a old falconer the other week who said to me that he doesn't like the direction falconry is heading these days, I think he is right expecially when you see the amount of birds forsale these days..... agree 110 %

make sure you have half the roof open as alot make the mistake of completely coving it ,also make a hinged front so you can cover the bars up when the bird is in moult you could always use that heay duty plastic strips u get in factorys to act as you doulbe door, when ur bird is bowed out you dont want any perch;s as it will bait to get to the highest point that why i said make them removeable so u can easly take them out when needed same as a wing if thats what u want .best tip is dont over complicate it

u using it for the pigeons or rabbit.hare ect ???
