  1. I had 2 litter brothers about 15 year ago. I used them pull me on a push bike. Had all the gear and they used to run for miles. Good fun. But got some funny looks. I had them from pups and put alot of time into them. But I couldnt let them off the lead. They were b*****ds with stock. At 6 months old one of them nailed a cow in the field. Hung off its nose and wouldn't let go. But there favourite prey were sheep. I tried everything to break them to sheep but couldn't stop them. My old man let one of them off the lead one day on the beach at about 5 in the morning when no one was about.
  2. In the country I dig alot of places are under 5 foot. And not very hard digging. There is a fair few big range places. 40 + holes but not very deep. You could get by with some very average terriers to be honest I think this also true for alot of hunt terriermen before the ban. Alot of hunt terriers are bred off because of the numbers they account for. But a hell of a lot are not worth breeding off.
  3. No doubt there is mate. I just find the black dogs have taken over. And I think there is a good reason for that.
  4. When I'm gifted a pup and it makes the grade and I wish to breed it, I'll go back to the lad I got it off. As it's his breeding and he has trusted me to test and extend that line. But if I buy a pup in I'll do what I like with the dog without worrying about what the breeder wants. Luckily I very rarely have to worry about it as most are gifted.
  5. I know a couple of lads that used to keep a line. Mainly reds. Nice solid stuff. They seemed to fizzle them out in favour of black dogs. They rated the early stuff but just couldn't keep the standard going. I had a bitch pup off them that never came to anything. Nice bitch, game as hell but scared of the dark.
  6. Some nice dogs on this thread lads. Credit to you Taz. I'm sure your inbox has got full pretty quick! Lol.
  7. I cant see how you think the strong Stuff Collars are chavy to be honest mate but it's upto you. Iv had bellman leather collars, look good. But leather rots. If you buy strong Stuff you will only buy once.
  8. Nice him D. What is the mother like? Thrown to her side by the looks of them?
  9. Iv read a fair few terrier books, mostly borrowed as I'm a bugger. And enjoyed most of them. But I read them because they were books on working terriers. Not for who wrote them. To fill a book takes some doing I would say. So most these tales from yesteryear are probably tweaked a little to make better reading. And to fill a few pages. But who cares if the bloke that wrote it is a twat. He can spin a good yarn and is making a few quid doing it. Fair play.
  10. I did that with mine but find the prongs go into the ground to far before the cutting edge gets to the root.
  11. Iv a sharptooth, good bit of kit but that red one TTV has made does the job just as well. And smashes roots which the sharptooth struggles with.
  12. Dead eye if the bitch is young enough that you are questioning whether to breed it then how is she tested enough to warrant breeding from?
  13. Yes. You get tri coloured pups in some litters.
  14. For years now the lads that have plummers have been talking about putting a good black dog or lakie back into the breed to produce digging dogs. And I know some have done it with good results. But why bother? There are alot of very good lines of black dogs that are bred to be dug to. And there is still shit comes out of those lines from time to time. So I guess my point is why take the chance. If you want a digging dog then get a black dog or a well bred Russell. Genuine question. Is it just because you like the plummer so much but you would like to produce them with more bottle?
  15. What percentage wheaten are they mate. is there anything else in the mix?
  16. Derek packed up though now hasn't he?
  17. Foxbolter. Not everyone is born into the digging game. Some like myself came to it later in life for some reason or another. I couldn't have terriers in my youth as I was in the army so couldn't keep them. Don't be so quick to write everyone off.
  18. Money in terriers is always going to be a point to argue over. Iv only ever paid money for 1 dog and that was a plummer. Because I wanted to try one and I didn't know anyone that had them. But every other terrier iv had has been gifted. And belive it or not most of them by lads that I never met untill I went to pick the pup up. Some probably asked around to see if I was legit and able to give the pup the work it deserved. Some I spoke to several times on the phone or over the net. But never was money mentioned. Iv got a pup out in the Kennels now that was given to me by what most wou
  19. You can see why so many lads keep to a tight circle. No names no books. Just breed the best to the best for there own use.
  20. Obviously the bloke is a c**t for what he has done. But in the eyes of the law he is well within his rights to shoot any animal worrying his livestock. There doesn't have to be bits of sheep all over the place for him to have just cause. The law states the worrying of livestock. Which as said could be simply the hounds in the same field as the sheep. I don't know the area so it's hard to comment, but round here a land owner could do this and wouldn't think twice about pissing off the local hunts. Plenty of boys out there with rifles to keep the foxes in check.
