-
I have two Brittany dogs both work on shoots and with my hawks and falcons would not go hawking now without a dog they are not the easiest of gundogs to train but done correctly you will have a great companion

Saline water for washing wounds electrolyte fluid crop tube bandage permanganate crystal wound powder the above should cover you for most things whilst out at the feild

Nice to see a harris with a decent bell on instead of shit lahore bells.lol regarding snatching food more than likely a touch over weight drop her half ounce andkeep her at that weight for a week then re evaluate her, not saying your doing this but ive seen people change a bird weight 4 times in a week up and down like a yo yo and learn nothing ive read all your diary you done well with her mate

Dont worry about quartering etc the dog has a good nose and work out how to use the wind itself as others have said recall is number 1 priorty a dog that wont comeback when told is no use to anybody I also teach the stop whistle seen to many dogs run over chasing from feild to feild over country lanes
-
Yes good idea keeps a chilly wind off them at night

To be honest I dont see the need for extra vitamins if your hawk is fed a good mixed diet. When moulting mine get quail , rat, crow rabbit the odd pheasent or partridge left over from the season and seagull. No day old chicks until a couple of weeks before getting them out again. When flying they get most of what they catch and get picked up with a rabbit back leg or doc never had a problem iam not saying the vitamins sold are crap just a good diet should keep them healthy and flying strong

Mike the main thing is to consider is damp and wind. If your hawk is going to be tetherd down use a perch at least 18inch of the ground and away from any draughts. Harris hawks are tough as old boots but this does not mean you cant useabit of common sense regarding the housing also if there is a cold frost forcast her food intake may be higher

Me and my mate will come up and ferret for you if at end of the day we could chuck gos at a rabbit our land is phes and partridge so struggle for rabbits
-
Thanks to muddy210 for the kit I picked up yesterday nice clean and healthy and free thanks again

-
Thanks to everyone for all your advice but after several attempts in diffrent ways the 2yr old gill will not tolarate the kitt at all I put a tempory patrician in the hutch things seemed to have improved so after 3 days I opend it up the gill grabbed so hard on the youngsters back I had to get her off call me a whimp but I cant put the kitt through that again so ive orderd another kitt to keep her company picking it up on saturday

Hi guys ive got 500 acres of arable land with hedgrow all round and 4 hedgrows dividing each feild with a couple of small spinneys lots of rabbits and hare's around thinking of putting feeders out and some partridges down how many would you suggest per 100 acres cheers thanks for reading
-
Thanks grayrake no the older on just pins it to the floor shaking it when it did let go the kitt tried to run away but within a couple of ft it had grabbed it again.
-
Tried again today but worse than yesterday today 1 of the older ones pulled fur out of its neck and leg.the youngster was trembling in fear we are now thinking if she is showing so much dominance outside in a large open area she could be worse in the hutch.do you think it may be a better idea to buy another young kit to put in with the youngster ? She is 15 weeks old very freindly and spends all evening running around in the house but still feel she would be better with another ferret for company
-
Thanks guys today my wife put youngster in a indoor cage then brought the inn older ones In.there was lots of hissing from all 3 lol after 15 mins she put the older ones away. A few hours later she tried again this time no hissing and the older ones was skipping around the cage and climbing on it but no hissing looked like they wanted to play.so this evening I let all 3 out togethor 1 of the older ones grabbed it around the neck and was shaking it lots of squeling from the little one and shit itself we left them for a few minutes as the youngster was looking quite stressed so i split them
-
Thanks for the help guys will start them off outside cage this week and take it from there
-
Thanks katsdad we are just concerned about recognising the difference beetween them just sorting out the pecking order and real agression we was thinking of letting the older 2 having a run around in the house for an hour so with the kit for a couple of days if all goes well put them in the hutch in the morning so they can be watched during the day do you think this would work ?
-
I have 2 x 18 month old gills in a double 4ft hutch earlier 6 weeks ago I bought 9 week old kit. My wfe and daughter who play with the kit every day are worried about me putting a 15 week old kit in with the older ferrets as its something we have never done before. So any advice would be appreciated also they are asking would it be better to buy another kit at around 9 weeks and would the 15 week old accept it.it loves all the attention its getting but I would prefer it to also have ferret company many thanks

Hi mate dont be to despondent if you dont get many replies as most people wont ferret at this time of the year in the meantime glean as much info as you can from internet you tube books etc so when you get out without someone you become a help and not a hindrence. Hope you get out and it all goes well
