  1. the dog held his breath cos he was on point, why do people think because someone else had success with the wrong dog they will, dog breads have been developed to do variouse tasks over many years, get the right dog for the job. not the dog you fancy,
  2. one pup will always come on better than the other, and you will put more into that one, and the other will suffer, if you don't do that, and you put more time into the backward pup the other will suffer, one pup at a time, you don't need two, you just want two, big mistake.
  3. listen any body shooting dogs is acunt full stop in my book unless its livestock worrying.
  4. my pup has had a couple of days out now and has rely impressed, she hunts independently of the others, has a good eye, finds well, and retrieves well could not be happier.
  5. there always downers, but those pups look lovely and they have used a half cross bull so still be quarter bull and capable of doing a bull cross job as well as being capable of other stuff better than a straight bull cross.
  6. that's fair enough with the bull cross, better than going back to a grey will gain stamina as well.
  7. I am interested to know what are the benefits to crossing a coursing dog with a bull cross.
  8. you know I was a poacher right from being a small boy but of course I did not see it like that taking the odd pheasant with a catapult, then rabbits and hares with a dog, and before long its birds at night with a fourten gun, years later by pure chance a chap asked if I would look after his farm shoot in exchange for permission to work dogs shoot pigeons etc, since then I have never poached and run my dog when ever I like, I believe we should where we can, help young lads who may take the wrong path with dog or ferret, a little patch to look after can make a massive difference to someone for
  9. I never had you down for a smart arse blacky lol.
  10. that's the only trouble with posting old photo's some snivelling bean eater has to take the piss, and I bet you thought you was so cool too.
  11. I lost that hat when I was sixteen years old, we left a pub some ware on the witham bank Lincolnshire in rather a rush one sunday lunch, it was on the juke box I can see it now lol.
  12. I remember a chap having some years ago I never saw them run but some good dog men did and said they were decent, personally though I would go for a beddy lurcher i have experience of beddy lurcher cross pure saluki and on hedgy snagy land you wont beet one, mine was unshakable, I crossed back to whippet and they were the same but turbo, did not hang on quite so well though to be fair.
  13. my mate bought a led lamp its a cluson one quite powerfull but I am certain its scaring foxes they don't seem to like it at all.
  14. I like a nice Sheffield pocket knife but for years now an old opinel been in my pocket, but like tommo, when I was rabbiting folding craft knives all the way.
  15. aint it funny back in plummers day no one wanted a white pup, and definitely not with saluki in it, how times have changed since his passing.
  16. what do you think it takes away mate, perhaps the lad that bred them could offer an opinion on that also cheers.
  17. if a s bred them the dog and its breeding are known, he would not use it otherwise surely.
  18. could take us back years lol, jokeing apart we don't need any random crosses back into the line, using them for crossing with other lurchers works to produce a good all round dog but I think the coursing lines should be protected, as they are.
  19. I must say I did not read all the article, I don't have the stamina for it, but several points hit home, I have never before seen it written that crusaders brought salukis back, but thought they must have, how could they resist, also his description of the way the champion coursing saluki ran, was very like the way the best coursing dogs we have run, also over the years I as I am sure allot of people have noticed that some dogs genuinely do spot stuff at incredible distances, that others don't see, it would be great to see what someone like him would make of our line bred stuff witch after all
  20. what's the obsession with teeth all about, I have a 243 for that, and no vets bills.
  21. looks like my line bred coursing pup from a few years back still does the chicken thing if you not watching lol
  22. nice strong dog, what was he put to, still could be good pups looks like a line bred dog to me.
  23. i thought it might be interesting to here what peoples first experiences with coursing dogs/lurchers were and when, mine was 1969/70 when I was a small boy out bird nesting and playing in the fields and woods around home I used to see hares all over and our mongrel used to yap off into the distance and i longed for a dog that could catch one, there was a litter of running dogs in the village these were beddy whippet x saluki not that that meant much to me at the time the bitch I bought for £3 was fly and she was a world beater in any ones eyes. the pic has been seen before but fly is the big
