first crosses don't have the wind or recovery of a line bred dog in general, most well bred coursing dogs contain more saluki than anything else, and that coming through aint no bad thing in my eyes for what they bred for, rather that than greyhound.
-
I don't know much about dancers breading and I have bred and ran first crosses and very good dogs they were just my opinion line bred dogs are generaly better.
-
my old dog wont look at hares on a shoot yet if he bolts one for the runner he follows on and gets in the way when the good bit starts.
-
they will be off the little black and tan bitch in one of the pics, she is sister to my pups mother.
-
this pup still going well no negatives my mate has her bro and he the same.
-
just looking at a dogs ped just now good little dog I liked him from a pup, the bitch is not in season yet though but the peds seam to go ok with each other.
-
I know nothing of bull crosses, but I did my own thing for years working percentages, and I had better dogs before and since is all I can say, and in 50 years of coursing dogs I learned a lot, some people learn nothing, I am just passing on my experience to help others is all.
-
i see what you meen, but finding good bull blood today for your average joe wont be easy im'e sure, and if you've done it already use another over it they will beat an f1 hands down.
-
I don't doubt your correct about the greys part in what we have today, but do we genuinely nead to be breading f1 hybrids when there is a wealth of quality lurchers out there, I have bred some very good f1 sal greys over the years, but if im'e honest they are not as good as a line bred dog in my opinion, and I am sure that is true of other crosses, my best ever coursing dog so far was a beddy whippet lurcher cross pure saluki no greyhound at all.

Half colly and half bull greyhound

let it grow up a bit and see how it develops if its racey it will catch rabbits no mater how its bred. -
I had that same theory, dint work for me either, my quarter was saluki, when I went to a saluki with the same first cross I hit the jackpot.
-
tell you what ben, a lot of lads who don't run coursing dogs, don't understand that speed is not every thing, a hare can cope with a dog pushing up behind it but they don't like one that gets at the side of it and looks at it, they know they in trouble then lol.
-
not this again, there will be a few say they had a gooden, but to be fair in my eyes to fast and furious for there own good, need diluted, good luck with your pup though busher hope ime wrong.
-
I once had an accidental double slip with the same bloke and he couldnot get why my bitch was having to jump over his to get back to the hare every time she bent it, he did not get that a dog can run slow when needed, and not flat out all the time.
-
I used to course with a chap who always said my little feathered bitch lacked a yard of pace, she killed more hares than his fastun ever did, as long as he is fast enough all that maters.

keep doing your stuff in the day and when you think your pups ready get it on some rabbits, it will pick it up quick enough, its simple don't over think things.

Two problems, hard mouthed and no retrieve.
two crows replied to Attaboy's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
one little bitch I had used to be live to hand about 9 out of ten then spit one at your feet and faf about catching it again that can be a pain when your in a hot spot, another one used to crunch every one, but you were not messing about straight on another, I know I would work on the retrieve every time, if your selling rabbits better ferreted anyway. -
are you talking to me, I have no interest in killing foxes with my dog whatsoever you fkin idiot all this is opinions.
-
that will be the bull then lol
-
yes I suppose I am using a bench mark which is set a bit high when it comes to hare running, but how many lads on here would settle for second best given the choice. as an ingredient there fine just in my opinion not the mane one.
-
when they were being used for coursing in the seventy's, I saw loads run and cant say I saw one that stood out as a good one, saw one or two good lurchers with deerhound in but other stuff too so cant say its the deerhound coming through, that made em good.
-
fkn sit down I cant get no work done for picking up, 3 times a week now till end of jan, and quick run sat tea with the runner or a lamp no time to sit down.
