everything comes to an end, have they been winding down for some time do you think. and I wonder what has become of the brood bitches they had.
-
it has not stopped raining since they came out the log place.
-
early to mid seventy's I sold several line bred litters all over the midlands, Leicester ,notts Northampton, derby, sold two to Southampton, most of the ones that stayed local were good field hare killers, i might be miles off, with the crosses, but I know the saluki blood all originated from the same stuff
-
yes guest it was mate, my old bitch was bred in 69, because of where pups off her went geography, and the ability they had, I think her blood must be in these lines, swoop is in my bitch lucy on both sides, lovely old picture. just to add, are there any other dogs from swoop in these lines other than the ones from joe.
-
gilbey do you know when that picture is from, it creeped me out, that's a dead ringer for my old bitch fly, size and every thing, i cant stop looking at it.
-
nice solid pup if she does 23/24 she will be a nice strong bitch and do anything you want atb
-
am not a fan of puppy farmers and what you say is true, but the reason could be that the lads that buy from them for working are not that good/experienced themselves.
-
if you cant find lactol or similar mate use goats milk just reared my pups on that no probs.
-
did you know that a genuine first cross saluki greyhound is all ways smooth coated, and never black and tan just a bit more shit lol
-
I have had great feedback on these pups, all strong bold intelligent, retrieving straight to hand without prompting, I am over the moon, just one b/t bitch left and if she don't go I am not bothered lol
-
cross bred dogs ie bedy or collie will generally have a better coat than a whippet, rough or smooth, coats are an interesting thing, with coursing dogs there are 4 basic coat types smooth, feathered, broken and wooly, I like the smooth type, but have had one ore two good feathered ones, generally smooth's seem faster along with broken coated, woolys and feathered are thought to be slower but with a lot of wind I generally don't hold with these thoughts, and think underneath the coat you have basically the same animal by using one coat type only you could fix a coat type easily, but while eve

whats the story drover never heard he was ill, rip
-
it don't to me either but pay it they will, but I don't think in this day and age 400 is deer for a well bed and reared lurcher pup off any kind, compared to the pleasure it will bring for years to come.
-
you don't though, cos in another post I said there worth the same and they should be, and lads wanting to pay fk all should get fk all end of.
-
lads go to football and get pissed up at whatever cost and think nowt of it, yet a few hundred for a dog is to much, scratting cunnts
-
they all worth the same to me, compare this price to any other hobby its cheep, I think anyone wingeing about price of a pup for work witch is your sport, don't deserve fk all, you get 5 or 6 years out a dog that's 18 pence a day at that price ffs
-
f you want a dog to mess with and only work now and then they not for you and mabe to much bit if you want a chance of doing what these are bred for they as cheep as chips what do you do with yours mushroom.
-
you should of said that mate if that's what you ment, because appearance dose not matter in working dogs, as long as they are physically perfect ability comes first, in my mind anyway.
-
its ok breading like that for type, but when breading for work you often have to forget looks and percentages.
-
leave a field for 10 years and its a wood, I have a few farmer mates and I give em stick all the time, one feller said farming was tough, I said you have a range rover a defender live in a big old manor house, have a couple of foreign holidays a year lol, it looks fooking awful from where I stand, he could not answer, but to be fair he a good lad to me.

Has anyone seen a homebred dog better a big name coursing dog?
two crows replied to Jobi's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
its human nature to exaggerate, but stories of old can also be true, in the fifty years I have run saluki blooded dogs only, and have had good bad and a lot in between,, I don't lie, you get found out,,, I don't talk about how good a current running dog may or may not be, that's not my style, I hear with interest all the stories of this cross and that cross regularly doing 3s , and wonder how they would perform on big land in jan ,I don't doubt these claims at all ,I saw a lab cross do it often enough in the seventy's, but you would get through some dogs to find another, same with all the non -

your right there where I lived back then it was lifting some of those bitches I had then will of killed four figures in there lives, and when I go back they are poxy tight little fields with no hares in, the dogs today are potentially better I think, but as you say you cant do the numbers now to prove it. -

don't get what you mean there, but I have seen several good dogs bred pure to coursing dog, and have bred three quarter saluki's in the past that made good dogs, but you don't here of pures going to lurchers these days, s don't know about that mate. -

that's where it all began, so in a way that's a step or two backwards where coursing dogs are concerned, however I don't see that as a bad thing at all, this dog produced some top class dogs in the sixties and while he did go to a couple of greyhound bitches he also went to several lurchers , I had a bitch from one of these and she was possibly the best hare catcher I ever had, and hare killers came from every litter she had, but as you say she was possibly not as stylish as some of her more refined offspring, the old saluki dogs sire, was a dog called springbarn sandpiper, and he can be foun- 84 replies

big name dogs, usualy have owners who want to be famous, any purpose bred coursing dog will carry big name blood, and if said dog can catch 3, 4, or even 5 hares it can win a match , against any one.
