just generalising my old duck lol the lad commented on creating a good general lurcher type nothing more, but while your on I think a fast type coursing stud would offer far more than a greyhound to terrier blood for what you seem to want, and that is just mho so wont be debating it lol.
-
the problem lurcher breeders have is that the dog that gives the desirable traits is the base type, so first cross goes to grey hound good traits diluted, first cross goes to base breed, loss of speed, so without adding another lurcher its harder to create a perfect type without compromising a generation here and there, with coursing dogs saluki can catch a hare in pure form, so first cross gets coursing brain and endurance from saluki bit more pace from greyhound, but in the beginning of the coursing dogs development it was not all about first crosses, lads were adding saluki blood to existin
-
the problem with traditional lurcher owners is their ideals differ to much, for it to be possible to achieve a std dog, and kennel blindness to a point, when you look for a coursing stud you use the best even if you hate the owner, lol.

every lurcher can be considered the finished article if its full potential has been realised its just some are more finished than others.
-
as phil said good post but rta are more to do with bad handling than anything else.
-
that's something I did not know ,but wondered, in first cross saluki greyhound you don't get black and tan or feather, I always assumed whippet saluki first cross would be the same, every day a school day.
-
how big are they , how are they bred, and are they related, b and t is a belter.
-
are the other pups the same? if so has anyone else come up with an answer, I still recon its a deficiency of some kind.
-
I will tell you the tale, are you sitting comfortably. then I,le begin, a long time ago in a land far away, I got a bitch called fly she was off a bedlington lurcher bitch to a saluki dog, I mated her to a whippet to get rusty the fawn bitch above, p ups from that litter went all over the midlands mostly to pigeon men who knew my old man leister, Loughborough , Darby, Nottingham and worksop area, a dog that stayed local called skip looked like a big version of my bitch, went to a black and tan saluki lurcher off the original saluki flash, I used a red dog from this union over rusty to produc

I never went lamping until a lad I knew a bit from a firm we dealt with said he had a lurcher and lamped, he took me out, the little red bitch was about 7 or 8 then and she made a good lamper live to hand every time, and dint miss much at all.
-
don't no about now but in the 1970s I put a whippet over a saluki lurcher, and she was dynamite, and her daughter off a related dog,( red bitch is the daughter,) you wont see anything on video kill hares like them.
-
not sure to be fair, I got given him off someone in the saluki club, but he was obviously a cross, he could run all day but never suited the land we had back then wanted a fen.

if I was not into what I am into I would love a little bitch like that.

that's the same everywhere I have been in running dogs a long time, and you often get slagged off for trying to pass on knowledge, and help people to possibly avoid making mistakes you may have made, and are often dismissed as a has been, or what you bred or did in the past is put down by younger lads, there can often be a lack of respect that would not exist in person, every one young and old has a story to tell and wise men listen and learn.

pup looks nice, how do you rate your older one on big rabbits, with regards to pace can she hold back and use the gears when required, or is she flat out, I am guessing you wont get to many stingers down that way so she should fare ok with that, genuine interest mate about something I know nothing -
a bloke from the pit used to make us little pouches out of rubber belting for a pint in the pub.
-
nice imagine rearing a litter of pure cattledogs.
-
I have reared loads of pups in 50 years and mine always get weetabix and goats milk for breakfast, lol and I doubt anyone rears pups better than me, but you could be right mate.
-
going by the pictures the pup does not look itchy or red in any way, I suspect a deficiency of some kind and perhaps a simple fix.
