-
not a go at you or beddys just a reason why things become rare among working owners, a mate of mine had a lab greyhound that could do three out of three winter hares but it don't mean they all can dose it.

that's the point, why keep one type of earth dog when there is a better one, if that's the job your interested in, the men that created all our wonderful old breeds of livestock knew their stuff, but as people started to move about more, things changed, and breeds from other areas and even other countries started to have an impact, and all have been shown by proud owners, and worked at the same time,, the show men have ruined some dog breeds that's for sure, but lots of breeds like cocker spaniels for example have split into two distinct types, and survived as workers, despite being popul

a fact is if something is rely good enough at the job it will be kept going, whether its a dog a cow pig horse or chicken, working dogs get dropped by seriouse dog workers when something better at the job comes along, if you want to do the job properly that is.
-
there are a lot of reasons being mentioned why you cant find a good working beddy, the real reason is probably because there are terriers out there far better for terrier work than the beddy ever was, and it got dropped simple, like a l lot of other regional terriers collies etc, imho.

I kill foxes with a rifle and lamp, and was out one night and could see the farmer working, I rang to let him know it was me and he had not seen me, I had to shine in the air for him to pick me out, I also lamp behind my mates house with the dog and he don't see me either not as obvious as you think.

the bigger bitch is bedy lurcher x saluki, the pup is her to a whippet 1974 ish, I line bred them for almost 20 years all hare killers, and never bred one that was not smooth, the bitch in the first pic came down from her years later from a Leicester man. cocker bred some courser x beddygrey in recent years, I may well do the same.

queen wasp -
been re sheeting the shed today we have not had a moorhen on the pond in years, the owl was 400 yards away,

nice pups cash and I like the old dog, my first bitch was beddy lurcher cross pure saluki ( 1969 ) great bitch, her father ( flash ) went to several lurchers with deerhound in them, they made some very good dogs, what is often not realised is most of those early saluki blooded coursing dogs were bred from ordinary lurchers, and as consequence several coat types crop up, old flash also went to greyhounds and produced some good first crosses, he went to one pure bitch, bred from Iraqi imported grand parents.

me neither something missing from this story imo

the first of many I hope -
we used to do some beetroot land at misterton years ago and the rabbits were bright red on the inside.

I don't think any other type of running dog has been developed better for a specific task in the last 100 years, and quite frankly it will never happen again, I don't know but would not be at all surprised if most of the best all round lurchers in the country carry coursing blood.

oh ok then I only had em 50 years what would I know lol.
