  4. do you know where that was held, flash won a saluki comp, and I wonder if that's why he was used over one of their bitches, as he was never shown.
  5. I had a good pure fast with gears, obedient loyal good daytime or on the lamp, but they are not all like that so be carful, you also need the right temp as well, or you wont tune in lol.
  6. Newark not far from us worksop way back then
  7. juckler the bitch he went to was Kumasi semaramis (these pups bore the prefix barzan I dont know any thing about them), her sire was Kumasi komandan, he was the first smooth dog to be an English champion, her dam was Kumasi rishi they were gifted to mr v simpson Henderson by shaik shaker shaik kamandan of Iraq
  8. he was owned by my wifes uncle, his ped name was caleb of xeros, (flash) his sire was spring barn sandpiper and dam Anastasia of daxlor ,his sire can be found in about all the saluki used in the coursing dogs of today, including prince, looking at the broken coat, here is a pick of bitch bred down from my old bitch by a Leicester man similar stamp, flash went to an bitch bred from imported parents that had been gifted by a Iraqi sheik to a English man.
  9. the thing with law is it has to vary, on a big fen if its sighted it goes, but on tight snagy places you cant do it, but I know what you mean.i don't like the ones that get dragged around for 5 mins and catch it in a ditch lol.
  10. don't know left them to it for several evenings and he was trying so fingers crossed.
  11. this dog produced some top class coursing dogs in the 60s and was the foundation of all my 70s stuff like you said hens teeth.
  12. there have been and always will be special dogs that come along, and every young chap trying to breed a world beater rushes up with their pride and joy and pays their money and takes a chance, for me your better going to its father, a proven producer, over the years there have bean several famous dogs with no connection or a week one to the old lines that were used a fare bit and produced nothing, so depth of breeding is key when breeding coursing dogs. pre ban
  13. you seam very bitter about the coursing world, is there a personal reason for that you'd like to share.
  14. my cockers cant be trusted with dead game in the motor, yet don't damage any while working, so I feed raw as they come partridges for free, and they look great.
  15. I think age has a baring on things too mate, looking back to when I ran 3 or 4 dogs, you need to be out twice daytime and several nights, just to satisfy the dogs, and as you get older that becomes a chore, its good now having one, I still get out but to suit me and I have nothing to prove, so don't get excited if she is not quite right, those that mater know what's what, I am the weakest link lol.
  16. just trying to line her aunty with old max but he is 11 so might not happen just leaving them to it lol.
  17. a lot of people seem to judge dogs these days on weather they take fox, I don't get it, to me if I wanted to catch foxes I would get a dog bred that way and take rabbits with that, owt can catch lamped rabbits even mine lol, it is defo the collie causing the problem in the op, I have seen lots do it and lads just accept it as normal.
  18. that's just what lads was thinking 50 years ago where fast rabbits are concerned, and look what that led to lol.
  19. the daughter of the man in the glasses rides with the hunt they don't bother them..
  20. I often cut a nice fork if I see one and match it to a shaft later.
  21. no mate just the colour, my sister gave me the dogs head when I was about 14 god rest her, its had a new shaft in that time lol. the twist is silver birch caused by honey suckle it has a rose knob this one is willow it will be a thumbstick.
  22. I enjoy making sticks and have used allsorts including dog rose, which I like, I give them as presents instead of a bottle for invites.
  23. I always like bitches, temp goes without saying, it has to be honest, well put together so as to stay sound, biddable to an extent, ( I don't ask much ) and I like affection gained from a proper bond, now picking a pup to give you that, this is where the trouble starts, so parents doing the job you want, and a depth of beading in the line, I have seen one or two good dogs that don't produce because they lack breading imo, so with coursing dogs that means the lines with names attached, as these are the old lines that produce the goods time and time again, just how I see it.
